Carlos straddles the line between blues and jazz. His backgound and typical venue is blues, but his level of sophistication is jazz. Sometimes this works against him, as jazzing up a down-home number can alienate the fans from either camp, but the hybrid often works to beautiful effect: Blending the tough sound of Chicago blues with a flowing improvisational genius.

I saw Carlos Johnson the other night at BLUES and I was truly amazed at the dexterity, or should I say thumbterity, and the feeling of his music. A really great night that made my visit to CHicago from Britain all the more memorable! While he was playing he mentioned he had brought out a CD but I find no mention of it anywhere.
