I'd like to share an incredible night with you. I'm in Bangkok on business and decided last night to take my wife to the Sirocco for dinner. Well, tonight 150 or so people are enjoying the excellent music and atmosphere with we get word the Prince of Thailand has arrived. While this is all happening Tecora is kicking it into high gear. Her last set included a classic Ray Charles hit “Georgia” and brought the entire crowd, including the Prince, to their feet. On our way out, we stopped to thank Tecora. She tells us her night is not over and that there are some gentlemen waiting to take her to Bamboo Bar in the Oriental Hotel. It seems that she was heard by Bahrain officials who reported back to the Prime Minister, Kalifah al-Kalifah, who has a phobia of heights so he couldn’t see her a the Sirocco. My wife and I decided to go too. We got there and sure enough the Prime Minister of Bahrain was there and had his own corner of the Bamboo Bar set up like a receiving line. Fifteen minutes later Tecora arrived. She was whisked immediately into the corner with the Prime Minister where they talked until the start of the next set. Then the singer at the Bamboo Bar, Zelphia Robinson, introduced her. Tecora came up and said she had a request for “Georgia”. Once again she delivered. The room lit up. The Prime Minister was captivated. I don’t know how Tecora Rogers got away from the US, but I know of at one Prince, one Prime Minister and about 200 mesmerized fans who are glad she did.

I saw Tecora Rogers at the American Embassy Ambassadors Residence in Bangkok Thailand on Thursday February 24, 2005 where she performed jazz and presented historical background on each song. It was the most amazing combination of jazz and African American History I had ever seen. She is a knowledgeable historian as well as an amazing songtress. I do believe history will place her right next to Ella Fitzgerald. She is absolutely incredible.
