Panini Panini is no longer in business. There's a coffee house in its place that just opened a week ago (6/1/09). The waitstaff sucks. The so-called manager doesn't speak English well. They have a big banner taped to the gate that says "Pure Ethiopian Coffee Not Brewed". In the past year, this is the 3rd coffee shop (same name - Panini Panini) that has been at this site. There use to be a guy named "Hida" from Bosnia that was there for a year and everything was good; staff, food, live music, etc. which I enjoyed frequenting; however, now it just SUCK.

I no longer live in Chicago, but I have fond memories of the time I spent at Panini Panini. It was, by far, my favorite Chicago neighborhood coffeehouse. Their coffee was good, and their breakfasts and lunch sandwiches were simple but excellent. More than the food and coffee, the atmosphere was relaxed and the tone very Euro. I always felt comfortable spending a couple of hours there just reading and writing. I hghly recommend it...and if they still serve those tomato and mozzarella sandwiches, I recommend those too.

I just recently moved down the street and support small business every opportunity I get, but I will not support Panini Panini. I went in for a cup of coffee and was excited to see the place I had so often passed by. The coffee was medeocre (and I drink straight black coffee) and the service was even worse. The woman who waited at me refused to return my smile and treated me as though I were an inconvenience. Needless to say: they only had one chance to make a good impression. However, my dislike for Starbucks is stronger than my experience, so I'll give it a second chance.

Panini is my favorite Chicago coffee joint. The coffee is good and they keep your cup filled at your table. The home made baklava is to die for. The local Bosnian flavor makes you feel like you're in Serejevo.

They recently renovated everything, except the service. Good place to go if you're in no hurry. Have seldom seen the same waitress twice.
