The Pops in Mokena is not managed very well at all, I had to return the chili because it was so full of black pepper that it was not edible, we could have spent our $30 for dinner more wisely I guess. The lady behind the counter was quite snippy about the comment about the chili.

I have been in the New Pop's in Lockport. Some of the employees are much friendlier than others. I hear a lot of swearing and yelling and backstabbing. I notice one employee who tends to stand alone. I have talked to her and she is friendly. Her name is Ellen. One girl who claims she is a manager does not need to be a manager. My order was messed up and she made a big fuss out of it and yelled at employees. Other wise the food is great.

Food is good, especially the fires. THE PEOPLE ARE TERRIBLE. The workers are rude (especially the managers) and whoever runs the registers. They don't say thank you and pretty much throw the change at you. Once the register locked up and they acted like it was my fault. I won't go there again. MOKENA LOCATION... I'm talking about you!!

So here it is, we are now under new ownership. The new owners took over a couple of weeks ago. The overall look of the place looks better when you walk in. They clean the windows at least 20 times a day, They are constantly making changes for the better. Some of the food has changed, and it tastes better than before. The burgers are not so dry anymore, they are nice and juicy, the steaks are the same, but they are also nice and juicy. The Grilled Chickens are real now, cooked fresh every day, (the previous owners bought Precooked processed Chickens). The beef is better, they use a slightly different seasoning than before. The rib Sandwich is excellent and doesn't take forever to cook like it used to. The service is 100 times faster, the goal is to get people in and out as fast as possible. The previous owners bought the cheapest product they could find, and the new owners buy what is good, quality over quantity. I enjoy working for the new owners, its a more relaxed environment. They are better staffed. So if you are in the area stop by, we promise to get you in and out and give you excellent service. My favorite is the Grilled Chicken, with honey mustard on French bread.
a Northsider who likes it.... says: On Friday 4/6/07 3:26 PM
I'm a northside who lives South now. My favorite used to be Al's until I had Pop's. They have the best cheesy beefs around, as well as fries. We've never had a bad order from them, and the one time I had to wait about 10 minutes (after I called it in) they gave me $5 of Pop's money for my inconvenience, and I didn't even complain! They are ALWAYS crowded, but I'm usually in and out of there quickly. My suggestion is to call in your order. Makes me want one now...

I read the one review from the guy who said pop's sucks, after working there forever I kinda agree, but thats just cause I'm tired of it. If your order is screwed up, sorry, with stupid H.S. kids working there, they tend to mess up, but if its our error, you'll get compensated. as for the veterans like me, we try our best to get everything out like its supposed to be. I noticed alot of requests on how to make our beef and gravy. in a week we order about 700-800 LBs and at christmas time same amount but for one day, The Beef itself is cooked in huge cookers, about 6-7 pieces per cooker each piece is about 10-20lbs. we do about 4-6 cooks per day. it cooks for 3-4 hours depending on size of the pieces, at 350 degrees. 15 min. on fat side, flip and 15 more min., then water added for the remainder of the time. The gravy is made from the water that the beef is cooked in. The seasoning is added 15-30 min. prior to the beef being done. After the beef is out it is stored in our cooler until the next morning, when it then gets preped and sliced for that day. the gravy is also stored in the cooler. each cook makes up to about three 5 gallon buckets of gravy. the seasoning itself is a secret, sorry. The bread is French bread, but is ordered in large quantities, isn't the same as store bought.

I ALSO MISS ITALIAN BEEF FROM CHICAGO AND WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A RECIPE. ALSO WHAT KIND OF BREAD IS USED. STORE BOUGHT ITALIAN OR FRENCH BREAD JUST DOESN'T WORK FOR DIPPING.
