We always love going to Ravina and look forward the outstanding performances you provide but this last event we attended, the Tony Bennet concert was a disappointing time for me as well as our friends who attended with us.

The distraction from those sitting around us made it very hard to enjoy the normally relaxing surroundings lying on our blanket, gazing at the stars, drinking fine wine, eating wonderfully prepared food and most of all listening to the soothing voice of Tony Bennet as he sings some of my favorite songs. But due to the over abundance of people talking throughout his performance I did not have this experience – disappointing!!!

I recall in the past you had ushers walking around the setting ensuring people were respectful of the performer and not talking and caring on, this was not the case on Friday night. I heard more about soccer practice and what was taking place at the office that evening than the words of the songs being sung by Tony. At times we even asked the parties engaging in their conversation to keep it down but with no success.

Please bring back the people walking through the venue asking people to keep their conversations to a minimum so people like my friends and me can enjoy the performances you work so hard to provide for our enjoyment or this may be one of the last times we travel extensively to visit Ravina and participate in other venues who take into consideration the performer and his/her audience. Thank you.

We went to Ravinia last evening to see Tony Bennett which is an event we look forward to every year (we've seen TB three times). This year we were disappointed. Many of the people on the lawn talked through the entire performance! It was like sitting at a kids soccer game. There was actually a family sitting near us with four children who were better behaved than most of the adults in our section. It was hard to hear Tony at times and the constant chatter ruined the mood. I recall going to CSO concerts there and they had employees walking around asking people to be quiet...don't they do that for every performance? If not, why? We drive more than an hour to get there and carry a feast that we spent hours making and packing...this experience will make me re-think going again.

It was raining all weekend in the north Chicago suburbs but going to Ravinia in Highland Park on Sunday night 8/19/2007 made it all worthwhile. It turned out to be a jamming night of funky rythum and blues and jazz by a great saxiphonist. It was humid and muggy due to the heavy rain but hearing those first notes made me forget about the bad weather.

It was a night where Tower of Power and David Sanborn gave us that showed up for yesterday nights concert in the outdoor pavillion a chance to fell the music rather then just hear it. There were even some people dancing in the rain out on the lawn.

I first heard of Tower of Power when I was a teenager and have since gone to see them at many venues over the past 37 years. Actually, tonight I have tickets to see them at the Patowami Casino in Milwaukee. I don't have to worry about getting wet there because they have a brand new concert hall. If you haven't gone to hear Tower of Power and you like jazz or funk music then get some tickets and go. Even in the rain it was worthwhile going.
