I was not impressed at all by this aquarium. They must have admitted over 20,000 people the day we visited 8/13/07. I could barely walk, much less enjoy exhibits. The price was ridiculous, $50.00 for two people. We payed and only stayed for 20 minutes. What a waste. The animals were spectacular, especially the anaconda. Too bad we couldn't see them through the hoards of rude, flash photographing on-lookers.

There are some ethical animal rights advocates who will not visit the Shedd, especially since they brought in the big sea mammals like whales and porpoises. Sad, and there may have been a story that they had to evacuate recently because of some bacteria attacking the whales.
I did visit tho' and found the manta rays quite intelligent, one in particular had a scar (from a fishing injury maybe) and was smartest and friendliest. I find it hard to view sea creatures because they are always moving about. Summer nights are fun, if you are cool and old enough to drink (no drinks in the Whale room), parking to the south for $15.
If you want to relate to animals, visit the farm sanctuary in Orland, California (north of Sacramento) or in New York. These farm cows, pigs and donkeys let you pet them. You can adopt (virtually or physically, if you have the means).
