Spin...yeah, okay. Let me start by saying that, to be fair, the music is pretty good--actually some of the best music played in Boystown. For a mélange of urban, house, reggae and even hip-hop, Spin offers what many true music lovers have been looking for. However, the venue is extremely small and often overcrowded, there's a cover charge (even on weeknights), the drinks are diminutive and, to be frank, it's just a little too sexually ambivalent for my taste--on the verge of being a straight bar in the heart of the gayest strip in Chicago. Just as straight guys don't particularly cotton to being flirted with by men when they go to hang out in what they presumed would be a straight environment, many gay guys don't really fancy being groped by drunken "ladies" who feel they are above the standards of acceptable social mores. Basicaly, the music at Spin is pretty good; if you can find your own inner peace to appreciate it despite the atmosphere, have at it.

Not big enough. And, there should be no cover at this place. They more than make up for it by charging you way up the ass for the lowest shelf drinks possible. Dark in the back so a lot of classless people decide it's time to mess around. But, the music is generally decent, although they tend not to play most request up front for music, but GLADLY take your tips when you do request it.

This bar and the Manhole/Hydrate really form the heart of boystown. I'm straight, and yes, there's a good sized ghey population up in this mugfug, but i wouldn't call it a gay bar.

There's a front area with a gigantic square bar in the middle, some pool tables, and the back area has a stage and some couches. Good place to "do the scene" thing if one was so inclined.

Spin is a cool bar. I'm straight and I can totally hang there. You have to be 21 and over to get in though.
