I don't know what everyone else is eating, but our experience was awful. From a snooty server who was disinterested and disdainful to appetizers that were bland and uninspired, I was surprised by the poor presentation. The sushi was average, but way overpriced. Needless to say, we won't be back!

You better not have to use the restroom or you will have to ask three other tables to move so you can get up. I am 6'4" and the tables were way to close for comfort. The crab was good, The rolls were ok. Im still looking for that special sushi place that I will never stop talking about.

I ATE AT SUSHI WABI ON 12/27/06. I'M FROM CALIFORNIA AND HAVE HAD A LOT OF SUSHI AT MANY PLACES. 1.) THE PLACE WAS VERY NOISY. 2.) THE TABLES WERE EXTREMELY CLOSE TOGETHER. OUR TABLE WAS RIGHT NEXT TO THE BAR. A PATRON AT THE BAR KEPT FLICKING HER HAIR IN MY FACE. 3.) GET BETTER LIGHTING. IT WAS TOO DARK. 4.) THE SUSHI WAS GOOD, BUT NOT GREAT. GOOD PRENSENTATION. 5.) THE SERVER WAS VERY GOOD. I WOULD NOT RETURN. I FEEL IT IS OVERRATED.

I heard mixed reviews about this place, but I have to say that most of them were good ones. The biggest complaint that I had heard was that the wait staff was not patient with new to sushi diners. I must say that I do not agree one bit with that, the waiter that we had the night I went(ART) was very helpful and was patient with our orders. He did not have a problem with helping me with my choice and was very understanding that I was not accustomed to this style of dining. The other thing that I had heard was that the fish was not all that fresh, and that’s another thing that I have to disagree with, the food was excellent. I went to Sushi Wabi as a person that would try sushi only if the occasion presented its self, but I left as a person that would like to eat sushi more than just once on a while. Don’t get me wrong I would much rather eat a good Ole Steak, but since variety is the spice of life than sushi from Sushi Wabi is a spice that I have found to like. All in all I strongly recommend the food from Sushi Wabi, It’s a great place to eat. I am in no way saying that I am an expert in Japanese food, but I do know what I like, and that is all I am commenting on.

Granted, my sushi experiences have come from local sushi establishments and a few out of town, but I think I've had enough sushi to know when sushi is GOOD SUSHI...and this is GOOD SUSHI! It left me wanting more even after I was stuffed beyond capacity -- as a matter of fact, ate sushi once I got back home to which there was no comparison. The atmosphere was small, eclectic, and the other patrons were very nice (you sit right next to others). The only complaint I have is that the chairs opposing the cushioned bench are hard and uncomfortable. If you bring a date, make sure you can sit in the corner where the bench does a 90 degree turn -- you can sit right up next to them. Otherwise, GOOD SUSHI!

All I can say is "bad fish". Crazy as this sounds, the sushi I had there was not good. In fact I complained about it and they agreed that the tuna I had for some reason was NOT fresh. They could not explain it, but for all of the supposed good reviews, I found that quite surprising. Obviously, with all othe other sushi spots to choose from, this gets a poor rating from me.

Think Seinfeld's soup Nazi WITHOUT great food. I have ordered from Wabi more than 10 times only because it is the only sushi place in a delivery perimeter for my workplace. They burned the soft shell crab twice. The topper came recently: delivery was supposed to page me when he arrived. He did, 5 times with 3 or 5 digits only. It seemed too early ? it's only been 30 minutes (was told 1 hour), I called the restaurant for driver's number and after getting his voice mail 3 times in a row, I called restaurant again. The "manager" Julie thought it was my fault when that the driver did not know how to page and was not answering the phone. Downstairs, the driver angrily blurted he's "never delivering to here again". Upon suggestion he'd try paging correctly next time he barked "THERE WILL BE NO NEXT TIME"!

Another nice touch to the West Loop. Basement style dining; high ceilings, brick walls and cement floors all come together for a unique Chicago dining experience.
