I saw the Teddy Pendegrass story at the Black Ensemble Theatre last week and all I can say is "WOW"! It was an excellent production and the cast was fantastic. Everyone was incredibly talented and the overall experience was great. My only suggestion would be for management not to ask for a monetary donation at the end of the show. After experiencing such a quality performance (and paying $45 for a ticket), to ask for a donation is a little tacky. Trust me, with your wonderful show, people will sooner become "Friends" of the theatre before they will give an "offering".

I saw the I AM WHO I AM the Teddy Pendergrass storey.I loved it.I loved it.The actors were all excellant I cannot say enough about them.I wanted to pack them up and bring them to Ms.to share this wonderful talent with my hometown. The actress who played Teddys wife was so talented and young Teddy was something else. The young lady who played Patti Labelle was great everybody even mama was fantastic its not enough room to just single everyone out i want to but in the interest of space i will say this is a must must see it is a jewel in the crown of Chi town.I loved it I loved I loved it.So much wonderful talent showcased. The seats could be a little better tho for the price of the tickets the seats will hurt your back.

Sunday August 5th, 2007. I am not a theater lover, but I am a lover of Memphis soul music. In town for a short 3-day vacay. I devoted an entire afternoon to getting to the theater on Sunday (the Montrose EL is closed, so an additional cab ride from Irving Park was necessary). Arriving at the theater at 2:45pm for the widely advertised 3pm show (Chicago Reader, lots of websites) I was told there was no performance...make sure to call ahead so you don't waste your money, energy, and precious vacation time on this place. If they put the same care into their productions as they do their publicity, I daresay I'm better off not having attended...memphis soul rules! this chi-town theater should get its act together. thanx for listening. I was there a few weeks ago to see "Don't Make Me Over" and I am still raving about it to everyone I meet. I am currently getting a group together to come and see it again. I thought it was simply magnificent. Keep up the good work Jackie and where do you get those great singers?

I came to the theater from Jackson, AL to see the tribute to Etta James. It was the most wonderful experience. Actually I didn't know very much about Ms. James but after seeing the tribute I feel as if I know her personally. Desla, Dawn, and Carrie are simply remarkable. Dawn is extremely talented in dance, voice, and acting. Dawn's voice is like silk. Desla's voice is like power from within. "Hello, from Jackson, AL!"

I have the most wonderful memories of many of the productions that I saw at your theater on Beacon Street. I was particularly fond of one of your actors, Ellis Foster. Is he still performing? I no longer live in Chicago but visit as often as I can. I will keep myself informed of the productions coming, whenever I am visiting and pay tribute to one of Americas greatest Black Therater Groups. D.Worth Cincinnati, OH 866-245-0907

What a feeling this theater brings. Even as a board member, I am continually amazed by the passion felt in the songs, the energy generated in the music, and the realism in the timeless performances. It truly is one of the best experiences in Chicago.

Loved the Jackie Wilson Story. Loved little Ms. Valarie Tekosky as Etta James. You were working little sista!
