Two of the three best dining experiences I had in Chicago were at the 3rd Coast Cafe. While breakfast was a simple Western omelet, it was cooked perfectly and with bell pepper graciously removed. I am only a casual coffee drinker - I normally just think of it as my first caffeine inoculation of the day - but I was very impressed by the coffee. The 2nd meal was an early dinner of soup and salad. Once again, simple but so well done. A really excellent Caesar salad and a very nice potato and leek soup. Another notable issue was that everything in both meals was perfectly seasoned without being over, or under, salted. Such a nice surprise to have right next to my hotel. Service was just right - polite but not intrusive. I'm looking forward to returning on my next trip to Chicago.

This place is wonderful. We make a point of visiting regularly when in Chicago. Variety on the menu and good quality eats make this spot an A+ for us.

Today is the first time I've ever set foot in 3rd coast. I tried their pizza & it was so delicious. The price was reasonable. However, the waiter that waited on me has no manners. He's the one with the dark, spiky hair. We waited forever hoping he would give us our check because my bf & I kept looking at him. He saw us but continued ignoring us. We finally had to go up to the counter to ask for the check. When we left, we said thank you. He never even looked at us or said thank you or anything. So I hope we get a different server next time. I'd hate to give up on such a nice place because of a waiter who couldn't do his job properly.

I went to Chicago looking at colleges, so not a typical tourist, but all the same: I was tipped off about third coast by a college student - and as a seattle based kid whose grown up on starbucks, my testimony speaks that this coffee had starbucks beat any day of the week. The Atmosphere was irreplacable: cozy, elegant yet informal kinda place - obviously food is chicago's specialty, but as far as coffee goes, seattle has met it's maker!

In response to the post from "CN" My name is Janet and I am the owner of the cafe. I was disappointed to read you did not have a great 3rd coast experience. Obviously, the coffee you were served is not typical of the quality we expect to serve every customer every day. I take pride in our coffee, breakfast, lunch , dinner, brunch, ..it is what has kept us successful for 21 years. I invite you to come in again and introduce yourself so we can correct your experience. Thanks for taking the time to express your opinion. Hearing complaints as well as compliments is how we learn.

Diner coffee at bistro prices. Seriously, the worst coffee outside of those hotel room coffee "pods," at at very inflated prices. In a town that used to boast so many good coffeehouses, this place is a "must-skip" venue.

As a college student, it is a constant struggle to find great new places to study. Third Coast has provided me not only with a great place to study, but it also provides a lot of class and elegance, which believe it or not is quite lacking in college life. It's definitely my favorite spot right now!

I just moved to Chicago from New York City and was happy to find the Third Coast. The atmosphere reminded me of home (especially the talented jazz duo who serenaded me so beautifully). The food and service were top notch also.
