Trattoria Demi has been a consistently good italian restaurant for the two years I've been going there. Service is always very prompt and friendly, the wine list is very acceptable, and the food can be unbelievable - even the simple stuff like spaghetti and meatballs will remind you of your Italian grandmother (if you have one).
Please note that they DID just reformat their menu, and took off what I thought was the best item: the capelli d'angelo con carciofi, or angel hair pasta with artichokes. It was served with a sauce comprised of marinara, pesto, and white whine that was out of this world. You CAN still get it, though, but you have to ask the waiter for it. You can put the sauce on any pasta you'd like, which is nice, but angel hair really takes it well and so do the artichokes.

Trattoria Demi1571 Sherman Ave. Evanston 60201-4493 The waiter at this average establishment opened the bottle of Chardonnay between his legs, over asked if we were ready to order and was loud at 8:30 with babies who should have been sleeping. It wasn’t that dark either. The caprese salad was good, but both entrees were at best average with the salmon being dry and the other entrée with vegetables nothing to write home about. Overall Grade: D

Terrible dining experience. Stay away. Food was off and so was the wait staff.
