I love the Velvet lounge. Good music that makes you smile inside and hold the one next to you close. The setting is full of character and a swear Billie Holiday is weeking at me while the band plays. There's an old picture of her handing on the wall near the stage. If you're looking for an authenic, unprentious place to hear free form organic jazz go to Velvet lounge. It gives you a climax that is just not felt when going to places like the Green Dolphin. Small, cozy...stimulating from the entrance to the time you leave... that's if, you really ever really leave a place like this.

If you want an authentic jazz joint that has a local jazz legend in it every day look no further than to the lounge. I think the velvet lounge is the epitomy of what chicago jazz is. The look, smell, and sounds of the this place are unmatchable.
