I've been here twice and I have to say, both times I was shocked at how bad the service was. It's been mentioned before that you have to order at the kitchen...fine, but evidently you have to pour your own beer. The first trip there, we were ignored by the bartender for 30 minutes as she was too busy chatting up some men at the other end of the bar and when we finally got her attention, all we got was attitude and short pours. Same went for the second round...we didn't stay for a third.
After a few months, we thought we'd try it again. We were wise to the ordering at the kitchen, but this time, the man behind the bar had no knowledge what so ever of the beer menu and very little knowledge of English either. After ten minutes of watching him hold the menu up to each tap looking for a match, we canceled our order and left. Overall, the food is decent and the beer selection is nice if you can ever get it. Personally, there are half a dozen vastly superior bars with better food and good servers/bartenders close enough that I'll never come back.

Tonight's adventure in the endeavor to try all the Roscoe Village restaurants was a visit to the Village Tap. First annoyance: no servers. And let me tell you, I don't read the front of the menu, so we'd been there for ten minutes or so before the boy noticed the message on the front that said to order at the kitchen if there were no servers. Okay, done.
We ordered a half order of chicken wings, which were good, but not great. The boy ordered a burger with mushrooms on it, which looked great, totally loaded with mushrooms, and he said the fries were good enough. I had the chicken burrito, which was one of the most disappointing dishes I've been served. There's little quite as boring as grilled chicken, until you wrap it in a tortilla. I could SEE the tomatoes in there, but I sure wasn't tasting anything but grilled chicken. I got about halfway through the burrito before I saw any of the cheese or beans mentioned on the menu, but by that point I'd given up. The accompanying salsa was yummy, and a little bit got drizzled on each bite of the burrito to make it tolerable, but I should've been able to save it for the chips.
Not a horrible experience, and I'll probably give it another shot, because I'd like to be able to enjoy this bar/restaurant a block from my house, but presently, I can't recommend it.
