My husband and I had our very intimate wedding reception of 67 guests at Vivo. from the beginning of planning all the way through to the carrying out of the private event, the staff and coordinators were wonderfully helpful and hard working. The atmosphere was perfect. And, I have receieved nothing but praise for the delicious food that was served for our reception. We could not have chosen a better and romantic location for our October wedding. My husband and I have decided to have our anniversary dinner at Vivo every year.

While the setting and food were noteworthy in a pleasant way, the service and experience left plenty to be desired. If you decide to try Vivo and are looking for good service, be sure to avoid Andrew K's section unless you wish to be treated as though you were in McDonalds. You might also ask the host to keep the rest of the service staff clear of your table until you are actually finished dining before they swipe your plate from you. It's a shame one should even have to consider making such requests to ensure a pleasant dining experience. There are plenty of other restaurants in Chicago where such requests are not needed!

My wife and I chose Vivo for our final dining experience of 2006 and the way to ring in 2007. In a word it was disappointing. I remember Vivo as a terrific, edgy Italian restaurant that could compete with any of the top restaurants on West Randolph Street and Chicago in general. Things change. I chose the Veal chop which was undercooked and shy of a good cut of meat. My wife chose the Sea Bass which she rated as just OK. The wine selection was good and we were happy with our selection and the advice of our server. Our reservation was for 10 PM and we were advised we would be be a part of the New Year's toast to ring in the New Year. Then our five course meal was rushed to us within 50 minutes of our reservation time, very bad timing indeed! This is an issue Vivo will need to deal with. Experienced servers and others involved in bringing various dishes to one's table need to know the importance of pacing the serving of a meal. Once everything was rushed to the table, we had an hour until midnight and the complimentary champaign, which was not worth the effort. My wife and have spent many New Year's Eve celebratory meals in places that deserve the reputation they have, Topolobampo, Santorini's, Brasserie Jo, and so on but Vivo was a big disappointment we will not revisit in 2007.

great grilled cheese sandwiches, milk shakes aren't bad either. the pigfeeds are a little overpriced, but excellent in taste.
