I have never been to Paris, but if I ever do cross the pond and dine in the city of Lights, I imagine it would look much like Bistot Margot. Everything from the tight sitting quarters, to the mauve-red walls, to the French waitstaff, to the menu evokes pure French elegance; albeit all for a fair price. The French onion soup, hot and bubbly in a cast iron crock pot, was all that caramelized onions smothered in bread and cheese should be, plus so much more! The risotto of the day this particular evening was sweet pea with pearl onions, sun-dried tomatoes, and a lemon butter sauce...need I say that I was completely enamored? The grilled salmon was tender, light, and exceptional, accomanied by crisp-on-the-outside, smooth-on-the-inside duchesse potatoes. To cap off the evening, the chocolate espresso tart with raspberries and apricot coulis was a fudge-like indulgence worth every last calorie.

I have enjoyed our dinner on Monday evening. Onion soup, Brie tarte, Duo de Canard, Whitefish in lemon-almond souse, and Apple tart were delicious. I have to tell you that it was a plesant surprise to us that all bottles of wine are 50% off Mondays. So our complete dinner for two, including wine was 82$, which is pretty good for a Frech bistro. The service was good- they do not rush you and let you enjoy your meal and company- I do not appreciate, when courses follow one another immediately. That makes me feel that everything is just preheated in microwave oven and thrown quickly on the table to make you eat faster and leave the place. I like to take my time and enjoy the atmosphere.

On a nice, sunny summer evening, my wife and I were able to enjoy the sights and sounds of Old Town as we dined outside at Bistrot Margot. Before I get to the food itself, I must say that we had refreshingly excellent service- more attentive than many restaurants several price tiers above Bistrot Margot. The mussels were delicious, served in a white wine-lemon broth that will tempt you to soak up that goodness with some pieces of bread. The whitefish in "amondine" sauce was delicately prepared and full of flavor, and the lamb chops were quite tender. We enjoyed our experience and recommend you stroll around Old Town and try Bistrot Margot.

We really enjoyed this restaurant, and thought that the Frites were terrific.

The French toast is amazing.
