We loved Opera. The prix fix on Sunday was a great deal, $25 for appetizer, entree, and dessert. The food did seem to be a bit oily, but the flavor was good. We found the service to be very good, our server went out of his way to assist us. I had cod and it was excellent. My date had a steak dish and couldn't eat it all, a homeless man asked him for his leftovers and he was sad to give them up. Lovely atmosphere and great food. If we lived closer, we go all the time.

When I brought my two very good friends here for my birthday, we were all completely blown away with the presentation and the friendly staff. I have to mention the overwhelmingly exceptional service we received from Morgan, our server who paid such special attention to my dietary restrictions due to allergies, and was very knowledgeable on every aspect of Opera. Of course, we were delighted by the food and the atmosphere. None of us can remember ever having a nicer experience on a night out and we can't wait to share this with our friends and family.

Visiting from St. Louis this past weekend -- wanted to take my husband, who is also a chef, out for a nice birthday dinner. Wrong place, obviously. We were quite taken in by the beautiful decor, but put off by the entrees. The overwhelming use of whatever wok-oil they used killed ANY flavor that the dishes may have had. The fibrous, unedible shiitake mushroom stems left on my husband's dish put him off completely. The sauce was too oily and the flavor/texture was cooked out of the veggies. My dish of beef and asparagas was too oily also even though the beef was cooked to my liking. I was so disappointed. The lettuce wraps we ordered for our appetizer used iceberg lettuce, which broke when we tried to eat it - very messy even though it tasted good. I'd say, go there for the atmosphere, drinks and the awesome desserts....have dinner elsewhere!!!! kudos to the pastry chef

Dinner for six on a weeknight should have garnered better attentions from the waitstaff. Keeping a glass full should not involve hunting or begging. Drinks were small, expensive and unremarkable. The apps were OK in quality, and expensive for what came out. Entrees were presented nicely, but the quality and quantity was again only mediocre. Dessert very good, coffee was ok, when I could get my cup filled. Atmosphere was very good. Moderate drinking, apps, entree & dessert was $90/person with gratuity. The place was clean and quiet and suitable for a leisurely dinner conversation with friends (Mon.night). Things should have been much better for the money, and I will be seeking a different south loop venue to dine. This review is from a first time customer of Opera.

I was so excited to try Opera as I love Red Light. But, the service was bad. It took way too long to get our food especially the dessert which took an unusually long time. The waitress was also not very attentive. We always had to flag her down to order drinks. The $25 app, entree, and dessert deal wasn't bad. I had a special vegan mushroom wonton app which was good. Then, some so-so cantonese prawns with sno peas. But the dessert was AMAZING! I had the Tao of Chocolate, and I definitely recommend that. Overall, though, I was pretty disappointed.

My experience seems to be the exact opposite others on this site. I found the staff to be extremely helpful and I was really impressed with the extensive wine list.

The food was good but the service was horrible.

I liked their saucy wombat stew. The staff were a bit touchy with the silverware, however. I don't like my knives to be pressed up against someone's cheek while they tell me the specialties of the night. The waiter also had gas...

Amazing and eclectic decor! Wonderful and informative staff! Don't leave without ordering and devouring the Beef Broccoli (it's filet and to-die-for)! I've been 3 or 4 times and can't wait to go back. It's an evening to be enjoyed, with a lot of time and a large appetite.
