What can you say about a great diner with fine food and great service. A family diner run by a very kind family, whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner you are treated as friends of the family. My Ten year old son just loves the poached eggs, corned beef hash (AWESOME), hash browns and the hot peppers. I just like being there for the great food and friendly conversation. Check out the Macedonian Salad for lunch or dinner it is truly very well prepared. Any Sandwich and Burger selection will fill any appetite along with the rest of the menu. If Malts and Shakes are your thing they have the very best, Boris does a fantastic job with the Corned Beef. Nada and Van serve out the staff as no other wife and son can do. I have been a loyal patron for many years at both locations in Winnetka, and to tell you the truth Do yourself a favor and enjoy a true North Shore treasure.

I highly recommend Boris' cafe. If you are interested in trying something new, order the francheezie which consists of a cheese stuffed hotdog wrapped in bacon,fried... It is a little over $6.00, but is worth it.

However, my daugther's hot dog bun was totally stale. The cheese in my wife's omelette tasted like Velveeta, so she told the waitress that she thinks they might have accidentally used american cheese.
We could hear Boris (the cook,) yelling at the waitress and a general ruckus ensued. After a few minutes, she came back and told my wife that he insisted that it was cheddar. I tasted it and confirmed that it didn't taste like cheddar. My guess is that it was "cheddar" processed cheese food, not real cheese.
The waitress refused to take it back and said that if my wife wanted something else, we would be charged for the original omelette. When bringing the bill, she told me that she was sorry, but Boris didn't have time to make my wife something else! I replied that I'm sorry, but we will not have time to ever return to this restaurant.
This place will go out of business soon if they continue this disappointing behavior.

My wife and I saw this place while window shopping in downtown Winnetka. We were very excited to try out this apparently charming cafe. We were in for quite a disappointment!
The place was empty except for one other table on a weekday morning. We started out by ordering coffee, which gave us the first indication that this place is all about cutting corners and costs.
The coffee tasted like it had been sitting all morning, and smelled like paint thinner. This was only a sign of more problems to come. My wife ordered an omelette with cheddar cheese, my daugther asked for a hot dog, and I took the italian sausage omelette. When the food arrived, everything looked great.
