Wanted so much to like this place; close by to my new Ravenswood Condo; atmosphere looks appealing; and it's BYOB. But, alas, portions were small and uninspiring, sauce for my Tongue in Cuban Creole Sauce tasted like Dung; the black beans side was a small cup of mostly liquid; and service was abysmal -- never got a water refilled, never offered ice for our Sangria (lucky we actually brought a small baggy of ice for ourselves), and though only 2 other tables occupied, took 20 mins to get anyone's attention to get the Check. Sorry, but there are far better restaurants in this genre. (See my review for Cocina Degalarza)

I have eaten at Sabor a Cuba mutiple times and have always had a great meal- flavorful and filling- for practically NO money. The service is friendly, there is a nice outdoor area and the indoor area is BYOB. The Cuban style shrimp is great and coconut sorbet for dessert is delicious.

Im completely with Raynette...cuban sandwiches dont have lettuce tomatoe and least of all mayo..if you want that go to subway. Garlic is a staple of authentic cuban food. Mojo is not supposed to be a thick dipping sauce...if you want that go italian and order alfredo sauce. One should appreciate the authencity of cuban cuisine and not try to americanize it.

There are two flavors at Sabor - bland or garlic. Great if you like either. The tamales arrived warm with some white, processed cheese partially melted on top. It was the most flavorful thing in the entire appetizer - can corn get any more tasteless? The tostones with mojo came next. The plantains were fried golden and crispy but some salt and pepper would have been nice. Mojo was the wrong description for the dipping sauce - raw garlic in oil was more appropriate. I believe that they do have sour orange or lemon juice in Chicago. Why not use some next time to make a proper mojo? Although the bread of my Cuban sandwich was crusty and tasty, this German could have made a much better Cuban sandwich at home. The garlic chicken continued the trend with soggy skin covering flavorless meat. The small surprise was the red beans and rice - finally some spice and flavor. Goya would have been proud.
We passed on dessert, paid our $24 and went on our way.

I just wanted to add a note that Cuban sandwiches don't have tomato, lettuce and mayo. They are traditionally made with simply pickles and mustard and the reviewer should have known that before making such a statement. This just shows that this place is great and actually serves Cuban food as it should be served.
