From the moment I walked in to the moment I left I felt at home and happy. The lounge is wonderful with a nice fireplace, Claudia was great, very friendly, and helpful with the menu. The wait was a bit long but Thanks to Claudia my wife and I sat in the lounge enjoyed the fireplace had some drinks and appetizers. A Hundred stars for Cafe Laguardia

Had dinner with my wife in Cafe Laguardia (Chicago) on Sept. 15, 2007. IT WAS A BAD EXPERIENCE. The quality of the food leaves a lot to be desired. We had breaded chicken breast (fairly basic Cuban dish). The chicken was very tough, hard to cut with the supplied steak knives. My wife requested vegetables and a salad; they were simply horrible. The fried platains were the frozen ones from GOYA. OK with the rice and beans. Service was poor; they forgot to put the bread on the table. The soft drinks were flat and, they knew about it. When we complained, the server just provided us with the check . . . Bad experience, don't go there.

The last time I dined at Café LaGuardia, which was before they redid the place, they had okay food in a restaurant with tables on top of each other and poor service. I recently returned and since the rehab the seating is much more comfortable and the restaurant has a nice feeling, but the okay food has declined to poor. None of the food has any flavor. How can ropa vieja with tomatos, onions and peppers have no flavor? Somehow they managed. The fried steak with onions was hands down the worst quality piece of beef I have ever had, including the $5.99 T-Bone special at the corner breakfast spot. The appetizers, which used to be the only thing I enjoyed there are now less than mediocre. The only dishes I enjoy there now are the red and black beans.

This is my first time out to a resturaunt in the chicago area and I went to Cafe Laguardia on Armartige and I must say I was some what pleased with the food and the service was decent but then again not what I expected so i went on cafelaguardia.com to leave a reveiw and discovered that there is a second location and me and my boyfriend decided to try it out with hopes that it would be better then our last expirience and to our surprise it was the food came out fast and hot and most importantly it was grandmas old fashion cuban recipies and the service was great as-well, so if you are looking for GOOD cuban food go to cafe laguardia WEST!!! and be ready to let your taste buds go wild oh and dont forget the mojitos i have to rate them the best mojitos ever made.

I didn't even get a chance to eat at the restaurant. i walked right into the doors and was immediately greeted with poor service. The owner Carlos Laguardia was rude to my guests and was not willing to accommodate my party. I will never go back and would not recommend this place to anyone.

very dissapointed, after reading reviews in 'check please' we ventured to good cuban. The bistec encebollado tasted bland, the empanada appetizer was undercooked and the black bean soup was definetly out of a can. If you are looking for authentic 'cuban' food skip 'cafe laguardia' its all fluff and stuff....

Wow, WHAT a disappointment! It takes a lot for me to be "that guy," but my experience here left me completely disgusted. My girlfriend and I came in with open minds after reading about the place on here and the web site. We were seated 1.5+ hours after being quoted 45 minutes, and seeing multiple other large parties ushered ahead of us. On a positive note, we were offered our choice of inside or sidewalk seating. We chose outside, but were seated next to an awful smelling sewer grate. After enduring 15 minutes with only one visit from our server, we asked to be reseated. The host kindly did and we continued. On to the food and drink. The saving grace of our patience was the mojito, which lived up to its fame. But that only lasted so long. When our dinners arrived, we both noticed our meat was rather tough. My shredded beef was nothing like the multiple other Cuban restaurants I know and neither was my girlfriend's dish. We commented to the host about the toughness, and he rudely replied that, "There is no way your meat could be tough." Now regardless of this, it is not the place of the host to question. All this time our server was MIA at the other end of the seating, having struck-up a conversation with another table for literally 15 minutes. After saying we would like to pay and leave, he returned with our bill without our previously mentioned coupon deducted. I hate being "that guy," but there is a line for everyone. DINE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

I think the food here is great! We also go to the one on North Ave and it is a great place to gather with family and friends! The Bistec empanizado is enormous and delicious! The ropa vieja is absolutely great aswell! Everything we have had there has been a real treat! I recomend the ham croquttes and the empanadas as well as the firecracker wraps! This is a great date place and the location on North Ave is a BYOB until they get their liquor license wich is great because you could bring your own bottle of wine or beer! Definitely a great place to go for Valentine's!

I am fairly new to Chicago and was looking for good Cuban food that I had been missing by mother and aunt make. Unfortunately, for the 2nd straight cuban restaurant in Chicago, I was dissapointed. I had the Empanizada Pollo. The Chicken was good, but the black beans tasted like they were out of a can (definately, not homemade cuban style). I also had a side order of Yuca, which was dry like it had been cooked hours before and reheated...no moisture or mojo. My wife had a spicy pulled pork dish...which was basically a really spicy ropa vieja (but pork)..not really cuban. She also had a side order of maduros..which seemed to be from a freezer or prepackaged(they were dry and seemed to not be ripe enough for maduros, but to ripe for tostones). Also, what kind of cuban restaurant doesn't offer free pan cubano as a start??....The place seemed to offer ambiance and a good bar for trendy wannabees, and food for people from the midwest who have never had real "good" cuban food. I was hoping to find a place to bring my cuban family when they come to Chicago, but will pass, I will not go back here. I guess the Cubans that move this far north forget what kind of food they grew up on.

Every time my wife and I go here, we have a great time, we really do. The hosts are always well-dressed and welcoming, the staff courteous and the cocktail drinks are excellent. The menu is tasty and the fireplace area is also a place to hang out if you want privacy or just to chill out.
