I have several responses to the previous comments: 1. They didn't keep the same name. The streamlined name "Lava" represents the modern clean design of the new space. The old "Lava Lounge" was an old decrepit space made to look as nice as was possible. The new Lava's emphasis on intelligent design is a pleasure to experience...down to the EXCELLENT hand dryers in the bathrooms. They alone are worth a visit.

    2. I've never had a problem with parking, ever.

    3. The music is the emphasis at Lava, not stupid pool. You want pool, go to a pool hall. If you want music, go to a dance club. In a small space, music is the obvious winner.

    4. If you spent $20 on drinks, and that bothers you, then you didn't look at the drink menu. At what other bar can you get a $3 Belgian Ale? You could go to empty bottle and drink $2 PBR and get a hangover if you'd rather.

I just came on this website to get Lava's phone number, and had to stay to set the record straight.

The only things the old spot and the new spot have in common are the name and the tough parking. Go to the new joint if you want, but IMHO it's crap. That's relative to the old place, a real Chicago drinking establishment, and on its own merits. The old Lava was on its way out anyway...a harmonic convergence of brothers looking to score and dopey white girls looking for a thrill.

The new Lava is too small!!! Chill spot whatever!!! This new Lava makes spy bar more appealing.

I went to Lava on July 6 for the dubstep night - it was packed and the music was great. Great vibe - a crowd that truly cared more about the music than seeing/being seen. The sound system was not quite up to the task (need better bass) but the vibe was what I am looking for. I highly recommend Friday nights at Lava.

PS I don't know anything about the old Lava, but there is always someone who likes things the way they were, and things never stop changing.

I couldn't possibly car less about the new incarnation of "Lava Lounge," and neither would anyone who enjoyed the original space. Simply put, the owners of this space should have come up with a new name and a new identity. Old Lava=funky, fun, sweet, dark. New Lava=fake, bland, small desperate.

I really miss the 'original' Lava Lounge. This new place in no way resembles the Old u-krain village hang out. I guess the new owners only wanted to buy the naming rights. I went to the opening night at the pseudo Lava lounge. It was way to small and crowded. after a few minutes being in there i spent $20.00 on 3 beers. This new place is just another Wicker Park trendy bar. There was no pool table! They did manage to keep some lounge area, where only a bunch of tattoed and pierced graffiti artist sat at, they deffinately were 'too cool for school'.
