I was watching television the other day and Oysy was on Check Please, so I took a trip there and all I just wanted to say that this is an acceptable sushi restaurant, I mean I have been to better places for sushi and it can also be pricey. What I like about Oysy is that the price is fair and everything seems great but the fish isn't as fresh as it tastes. The drinks are horrible, I mean when I order a beverage it was great, but the second time I order it, the beverage is complete different.
The worst thing about this place is that when I order a dish that was my mistake I asked the sever whether it was okay to change it, but she told me that I HAVE to keep it because it was my fault. Okay, that was bogus. I requested to see the manager and she told me "I'm sorry but you know it is your mistake and you should of corrected while you can, but when your order is out on the table and you just realized that you made a mistake it's already too late to change. So you have too keep your order."
I'm sorry this place isn't all bad, but after what the manager told me and plus horrible service as well because as a customer you can hear the server interacting with each other in a clique and it had taken awhile for them to serve my food.
All I have to say is that this place should have never been on Check Please. It was a mistake to be recommended to people.

I have never heard of this place before this past weekend. The decor is fantastic, but the service was iffy. We waited probably 10-15 minutes after being seated before a waitperson came to our table. My friend actually had to go up to the front and request that our server come over! After that happened, the service definitely improved, but put an initial damper on the meal. The summer roll was delicious--loved the cilantro. All in all it was a pretty good experience, but for a slow Saturday night, the service should have been better. That said, I would still probably give it a second shot...

I just spent the weekend in chicago 20060812 and checkout the new OYSY. Great sushi, great decor, go there before it becomes to popular.

When it comes to sushi spots, it sometimes seems like finding one that is affordable, fast and delicious is an impossible task--but thanks to Oysy, those exploring on South Michigan Ave. can have their crab roll and eat it, too. Even at its busiest times--such as last Friday around 8, when I last stopped in--the staff is friendly and attentive, and there is never a long wait for a table. Edamame we ordered came almost instaneously; seafood pot stickers not far after, and the giant tray of sushi came just in time to allow us to finish our delish flirtini martinis before ordering a glass of wine. The restaurant's sushi menu isn't the hugest but it offers a surprising number of vegetarian sushi options--shittake, avocado and veggie tempura rolls are offered, as well as some rolls described as Japanese delicies (I'd avoid the soybean paste one--during my last trip the waitress explained it is apparently an acquired taste and usually only ordered by Japanese patrons visiting Oysy, and I have yet to acquire the taste, I must say). The only Oysy detriment is the abundance of middle-of-the-restaurant display tables--it's a little unnerving to be digging into a giant plate of sushi with everyone watching. But the food is so fresh, you get over it.

I love Oysy. GREAT lunch specials. I started going there when it opened, and wasn't busy. But last time i went, i took an HOUR to get my sushi. Which is insane. I haven't been back since. They need to learn to handle the crowds better. But, it is GREAT sushi!

Oysy is, by far, the best sushi restaurant I have been to in Chicago-- the atmosphere is great, the service was impeccable, and the sushi was INCREDIBLE, for a very decent amount of money. My friends and I have definitely found a new favorite for sushi in Chicago...

Touristy. Located on South Michigan Ave., the eatery is sushi - family style. It's atmosphere and food gives tourists a taste of Chicago without venturing far from the Mag Mile. Stylishly larger than most Chicago Sushi joints.

relaxing environment, convenient location, easy parking - fresh and tasty fish, excellent tuna tartare - deep menu with inventive and traditional maki creations - extensive bar, including long martini list - staff memorable for courtesy and precise timing - fair prices for quality sushi and service - one of my favorite spots
