Bill's Blues - Part 2: 1) No, I don't work for -- or even know -- "Bill" and 2)no, this is not a "paid promotion" for MIKE FINNERTY & THE HEAT MERCHANTS -- just sincere, and I wanna share a great deal! 3)I'm extremely claustrophobic and often have freaked out at venues like the Green Mill -- tho that's a swell place, too(albeit can get kinda pricey/little available parking/inconvenient from the north shore -- yet beloved). Tho BILL's BLUES is small, I've yet to get panicky -- which is saying a lot! ~~ Be there or be square -- as well as miss out on the best jazz deal in metro Chicago! (And please forget the DJ baloney, Bill: live talent is, well, talent. Anyone can spin a disc, right?) Thanks, Bill, Mike and Heat Merchants! Keep on keeping on!

Jazz is alive and extremely well on the north shore: MIKE FINNERTY & THE HEAT MERCHANTS are the best jazz combo in all of Chicagoland--for real! Being a jazz fan for over 45 years(hey, I started really young),I'm super "picky", and I've been a serious fan of Mike's since about 1984. Super talented folks show up to jam later in the evening and it sounds as if everyone's been playing together for years! Bill's Blues is a fabulous venue for Mike, et al: the price is certainly right (no cover, but please tip!) and no minimum -- but drink prices are way lower than in the city!(Again, please tip!) Also, parking is abundant on the street (remember to feed the meters til 9PM: Evanston loves to give parking tickets!)and after 9PM, FREE! How can one go wrong?! Bill should really keep Mike and his ilk (tho few are of this high a caliber) playing forever: he's fortunate to get such a great deal -- as are his patrons! And, dig this: you can still get to bed at a reasonable hour -- if you can sleep after such a high!

What a great pleasure it is to hear Mike Finnerty again at Bill's on Mondays. He is without a doubt Chicago's most under appreciated jazz musician. He's well worth the trip to Evanston.

I showed up last Wednesday expecting to see Mike Finnerty & the Heat Merchants (my favorite local Jazz act) and found out they had been replaced by a disc-jockey. I find this development to be quite disappointing. It takes a hell of a lot more talent and intelligence to play a musical instrument than it does to play CDs and I think replacing the band is a bonehead move on the part of the Bill's Blues management.

This place is THE PLACE for GREAT music at ridiculously low cover. Where else can you listen to first class performances (by musicians/bands that sell-out in Europe) in a classic blues environment for "peanuts"? This is THE PLACE (especially Fri & Sat nites) for world class Blues performers!!! Eddie Clearwater and Melvin Taylor are UNBELIEVABLE to hear!!.

The Jazz band there on Wednesdays the Heatmerchants led by Mike Finnerty is far better than anything at Katarina's. Mike's band SWINGS.

Northcenter's spunky club Katerina's hosts ethnic music, beloved locals like Skinny Williams and Erwin Helfer and rockin' spanakopita. Cozy sofas and retro decor are reminiscent of a posh, speakeasy sans Capone. Choc. martinis m.i.y.m. Lisa Torem

Last nightni went to Bills Blues for the first time to see a jazz band that I had heard was very good, Mike Finerty and his Heat merchants. I was knocked off my feet! My complaint is the evening ended some what anticlimactically when they had to stop prematurely so the DJ could set up!

Most of the Jazz in town is either that"free jazz" crap or college kids playing boring stuff. The Jazz band I saw on Wednesday with Mike Finerty was neither one of these . I really enjoyed them and I will be back. I also liked the blues jam but at times it was too loud.
