I am a fan of French food and I've been to France on serveral occassions, so I really wanted to like this restaurant. I think the waitstaff is awesome and the decor, although much more polished than Parisan brasseries I've been to, is quite comfortable and inviting. Unfortunatly I can't say much for the food. I've been to Brasserie Jo's twice and each time I've found the food to be highly over salted and greasy. Most of the menu selections are not truly French. I've yet to see a "shrimp bag" on a brasserie menu in Paris. To top it all off, as I was having dinner outside last night, two men and a women stopped outside the restaurant to look at the menu. As they were speaking to one another, I could hear they were speaking French. As one of the gentlemen was reading the menu outloud to his group, they all started laughing. I thought it was very rude, but it goes to show that I'm not the only one who has this point of view

They have the best ever profiteroles. I love profiteroles and always like to have them when dining at restaurants that serve them but so far, Brasserie Jo's profiteroles are the best- drizzled with warm chocolate sauce. Mmmm.

Well, the food is certainly good, but for those familiar with Paris, where you can hardly move for places better than this at half the price, it will seem a little overpriced. The Tarte Flambee are the best in Chicago, but again, in the Alsace region Tarte Flambee are cheap ubiquitous starters which are usually better than those served here. Still, if you want some good French food and some things you cannot necessarily get elsewhere (steak tartare?), this is the place to go.
