the staff here is fantastic, super friendly. they know names and drinks by heart. nice that they've finally added lots of food options like salads & sandwiches - now I can go there for breakfast AND lunch :) and the bar they just built along the front window is great too. now just need a few more chairs...

I absolutely love Pause!!! I consider myself a bit of a coffee and coffeehouse connoisseur and have to say that Pause is the best coffeehouse I've found from the Loop up. The coffee is consistently good (I especially like the Pause latte), and the coffee is direct trade to boot. The service has always been friendly. The environment has various seating arrangements and types of seats from which to choose, and you can sit for hours without anyone seeming to bat an eye. I also like that I see a lot of regulars there. I recommend Pause, without pause. :)

i have to say, the staff at pause must have changed since the last reviews were posted. since i'm new to edgewater as of april '06 i have scouted out all of the neighborhood spots and Pause is by far on the top of my list. The staff there today is not only friendly but they actually like being there, at least the mourning crew. They're always chatting with guests and laughing with one another. There are even a coupple of hotties working there with smiles that will deffinitely start your day on a good note! I gennerally have hot tea but the esspresso-based drinks are a great treat every so often. The pear tart is as good as any pastry that I've ever had.

Pause is a lovely spot to enjoy a latte & a freshly baked cookie. The coffee drinks are very tasty as are the pastries. They just added a few sandwiches to their fare. One word-YUM. They tend to be a bit too cold as they are premade & refrigerated. But they're happy to put them in the toaster oven for ya. They also added some new fruit smoothie flavors which are pretty tasty. This summer they had some problems with their A/C & the heat was sometimes unbearable. Until/Unless they take care of that you might avoid it on the hot days. Overall a great place with nice atmosphere. The staff is very friendly. The free WiFi is great & if you forget your laptop they have nice iMacs you can rent time on (VERY Reasonable).

The HollyWOOF Action Committee (www.hollywoof.org) has held several meetings at PAUSE and they have been very gracious and helpful in our efforts to get a dog friendly area nearby.
Personally, I love their baked good (especially the scones) and the staff has always been extremely nice and accommodating.
Alan, the owner, has been very helpful to us and has gone out of his way to support us and the community.
Thanks so much PAUSE!

The coffee is still great, though expensive. The pastries have taken a turn for the worse. I used to get the chocolate croissant because it was like heaven. The new product tastes neither like chocolate nor like croissant. And it's true, there are some grumpy workers that you will overhear harping on other employees, but many servers remain perfectly delightful.

i used to love going to Pause when they were new a few years ago, but i've been back recently, and they're under new ownership. although the drinks are still very good, the staff is very unfriendly.

Pause has new owners as of October, you should stop in if you haven't in a while. Its such a cool place to hang out and has great coffee!

I have enjoyed coming to this coffee shop for a while now, but then something changed. The staff is not friendly and seems uninterested in customer service. I would avoid Pause and take my money elsewhere.

My friend introduced me to this lovely place that's tucked away under the el. Not only is the ambiance very comforting & warm, but the service is as well. Not to forget the very well made soy lattes!!
