I had been becoming a regular Sunday night customer at L & L Tavern. I had a good rapport with the bartender who reminded me of an aging Beach Boy. On Friday, June 15, 2007 I did not not feel well and only stopped in to use the restroom. I felt I could do this since I had been coming in on a regular basis. A shaven-head bouncer carded me (I am in my forties). After using the facilities, I headed to the door. As I reached for the door knob, I realized that the bouncer was BLOCKING MY EXIT by standing in front of the door knob so that I couldn't leave. He then THREW the door open for me and told me that they did not have a public restroom and "Just remember that, Buddy"! He had a point. I probably should have bought a drink, but sinceI did not feel well, I didn't. Upon leaving I was glad that I bought nothing from these people and have not done so ever since. There was a time when bars could get away with treating people like that, but I thought that that time was over--at least in Lakeview. This place should be closed

When I was growing up here in Chicago, we didn't callthem "dive bars"--we just called them taverns. However, this is neither anymore. Very typical Lakeview place; you can go there 7 days a week and not see one person who isn't between 21 and 35.

This is actually a nice quite little bar in a neighborhood full of loud and zooey dance clubs and such. We just stumbled in there by accident.

Their house specialty was some kind of liqueur that looked and smelled like green nail polish remover. :)

Not only is this a classic dive bar, but it is serial killer friendly. Both John Wayne Gacy and Jeffrey Dahmer were known customers! Great bar on a stupid corner.
