After long day at work my wife and I decided to go out and eat on a Monday so we went to The Basil Leaf Café in few blocks away for our home. It was a great experience!! It had everything you could ask for in a restaurant. Freshly made to order food, great atmosphere and a fabulous service. This was my first time at Basil Leaf and I usually don’t give a restaurant five stars on the first try stars but I just had to. I highly recommend it.

The main review needs to be rewritten because they've moved across the street to 2465 N. Clark into a much larger, very pleasant space. Our salad and pasta dishes were excellent and our service, on a weeknight at least, couldn't be beat.

I was looking forward to eating here with friends who were enthusiastic about the food here. I was quite disappointed in the gnocchi with pesto sauce. The sauce overwhelmed the gnocchi and it was much too salty. Two of us were served the wrong dishes but the server did discover her error fairly quickly. I should add that I lived in Italy for six years so have some idea what Italian food should taste like.

This pasta here is great and resonably priced, can't go wrong. Plenty of food but not 'too' much like some Italian restaurants in Chicago. The more basic the dish, the better it tastes, trust me. Go simple and you'll say, "life is good".

Being a vegetarian, I was surprised at how many vegetarian entrees the Basil Leaf Cafe had. My favorite was the butternut squash ravioli with spinach, onions and roasted garlic!!

This is my favorite Italian restaurant so far. My husband and I have been here maybe four or five times, including our anniversery, and each time has been just wonderful. It's a small place, but very comfortable and relaxed. The waitstaff is very professional and friendly. The food, of course, has always been delicious and flavorful. The food is more about fresh flavors than about heavy, goopy creamy sauces that you find in so many of those "authentic" Italian restaurants. Love the butternut squash ravioli!

If you are looking for something different than the typical american dish, this is the place to go. They serve great pastas, salads etc. The staff is extremely friendly. This a good place to go if you are looking for a special dinner.

After a promising start to our dinner, the lack of supervision(due to their overexpasions with the Sage Restruant across the street) resulted in our being served the wrong meals. On the plus side, we ended up tasting 4 dishes instead of only 2. Aside from an odd, bitter taste to their tomato-based sauces, the food was quite good. Our pleaseant server comped us our bottle of wine to make amends. The wines are quite reasonablt priced, by the way.
