I've been to many many many concerts. Without a doubt, hands down, the WORST venue I have ever been to. Period. The sound is atrocious, the security is dimwitted, and if you are on the balcony you might as well be outside because you can't see the stage very well.
Did I mention HORRIBLE sound? I recently saw 2 acts there with a few weeks of each other. I left the first one because of terrible sound. I saw the next show a few weeks later thinking maybe it was just the band. NO...it certainly was not. I ended up leaving the 2nd show too because it was just too unbearable to watch/hear the show. what a shame...I usually love old dives like this, and this is right in my neighborhood. I never thought I'd be saying this, but I miss the Metro.

Without a doubt, the worst sound I've ever heard at any venue. Unless you love the sound of extremely high pitched cymbols and warbly echo mic pick ups yu will not like this place at all. The realy downer of it all is that it is such a beautiful place - or at least was. I didn't expect the greatest experience but all three bands had the exact problem. The sound guys don't and probably can't do anything about it. Boo. This place steals from every single one of its patrons and I'm sure that booking a band more than once here is nearly impossible for them. I don't even give it a D-. F is the only grade. I would have to be paid to return.

I have no review yet, but am desperately trying to contact somebody -- anybody -- to ask the questions that the above reviews address in terrifying candor. I have purchased 4 MCR tickets for a 15 year old granddaughter's birthday present, and am now scared to let them go to the concert. I can go with them, but I'm not sure what security a grandmother adds to a group of teens. Should I hire a bodyguard to escort them? Please someone respond to my concerns. The mailbox of the theatre has been full for days, and the ticketmaster people where I purchased the tickets are oblivious and totally not responsible for anything.
I may be an old lady, but I am "of the sixties" and will protest and raise visible havoc if my child is not safe. Please contact me regarding these issues.

I agree with John and then some. The security is out of control. I never seen a venue with such lack security. There is no way i would trust the coat guy's. The bathrooms are always flooding and not working. The beer comes in cans and makes for a good weapon. My car got broke into. The sound is terrible and has a huge echo. I much rather go to the vic, house of blues or any other medium sized chciago venue than the Congress. If you decide to go... make sure your hepititus shots are up to date

i went to the congress to see the taking back sunday/fall out boy/matchbook romance concert. The acoustics are awful, and the security has no clue what it's doing...although a relatively small G.A. area, the crowd crushes are unbearable, and crowd control is terrible. However, an awesome place to see a concert from the balcony, and excellent "front door" security. A 7/10
