About the aesthetics of the theater itself:

The minimalist interior design provides the perfect backdrop for the spectacular and vivid display of color provided by the inventive use of flourescent bulbs...unconventional, yet quietly beautiful in its own right.

Consider carefully your spaces and how your relationship to space shapes the space itself.

I have attended many events in the Harris Theater. For the most part the Harris Theater is fabulous. It solves problems that most other theaters have. Most importantly, the acoustics are the best I have ever heard. The sight lines are fabulous. I can hear and see every performing group better than in any other venue I have ever been in. The rest rooms are new, clean, modern and quick to get in and out of. The theater has elevators to mitigate the long climb from the performance level to the street. The interior design is stark and boring. There are not enough snack vendors for intermissions. The theater enjoys underground parking adjacent to its interior underground door. You can get in and out without experiencing the weather if you use the roomy, but very expensive parking garage.

I saw the Apollo Chorus' annual Messiah performed here in December of 2003. They sounded better than they ever sounded in Orchestra Hall and the sightlines were fabulous from anywhere. The "lobby/stairway" with it's concrete walls and bare fluorescent lights was not inviting or cozy, however. It felt like my idea of the Eastern block during the cold war. I will still attend events here because I respect the Harris' work and the features of the theater that count (sight and sound) are top notch. Thanks, Jeff
