I always stay at the BW Hawthorne Terrace when in Chicago, even if the conference/meeting I am attending is at a larger hotel downtown! I love the intimacy of the hotel; the place is immaculate, the staff is friendly, and the complimentary breakfast is adequate and you can take it to your room. And the neighborhood is charming; great restaurants and two supermarkets nearby to pick up things (there is a refrigerator/microwave in each room). Downtown is just minutes away by subway, and there is now Airporter service from O'Hare to the hotel. I highly recommend the BW Hawthorne Terrace Hotel!
