I agree with Timothy's comment "Some Chinese-American patrons of the Phoenix, myself included, have noticed that white patrons seem to receive significantly better service than patrons of Chinese descent." This is so true at Phoenix. Their food is just OK. I've had better food in restaurants in the Chinatown square Mall across the street.

While Phoenix has long been considered one of Chicago's best Chinese restaurants, service has declined precipitously in the past few years, especially during dim sum service. On a recent visit my family and I were consistently bypassed by the serving carts (which were, in any case, simply recirculating the same four or five dishes) and ignored by the waitstaff when we tried to get their attention. When I complained I was told that we should have ordered what we wanted from the menu; however, we were never given a menu, and another staffer told us that menus were not even handed out until 2 p.m. The staff was also rude and condescending to my mother and my elderly grandmother, who were both very upset by the way they were treated.
Meanwhile, we noticed that attention was being lavished on other tables right next to ours. Some Chinese-American patrons of the Phoenix, myself included, have noticed that white patrons seem to receive significantly better service than patrons of Chinese descent. I certainly hope this is not the case, but in any case the restaurant should make a far better attempt to attend to all of its customers equally.
