Kathleen (below) needs to get a life and stop criticizing the way the waitresses look in their jeans. Have you ever tried waitressing? I bet not. Why don't you go home and try to carry a hot cup of coffee on a tiny saucer and not spill it? I bet you tip 10% and wear a size 14.

I will NEVER, EVER go there again. I went to The Brownstone with my girlfriend and a friend on a Friday evening to grab a bite to eat. I'd eaten there a few times before and thought the food was pretty decent pub fare. Being Friday evening, we expected to wait for a while. No problem. We stood by the bar and had a few beers and waited. After about an hour, we started seeing parties of 3 and 4 who had come in well after us being seated. After asking the host what was going on, he said that he was going to seat us, but "got overruled" by the manager who took it upon himself to come out and start seating people. The host assured us that we'd be seated next as a 3 and a 4 top had just become available and just needed to be bussed. Cool, so we knocked back the last of our beers and settled up at the bar...only to turn around to see the same floor manager seating people who had come in WAY after us at those tables. We were all a little pissed off about getting the ugly stepchild treatment so I went back to the host/doorguy to find out what was going on. He claimed that he was once again "overruled". Finally the manager came back to the front door, apologized to us and told us that he had a table for us and to follow him. He then proceeded to lead us to a tiny fucking TWO-TOP at the bar. Needless we turned around and walked right out.

I'll never go back. The waitress brought me my coffee and my cup was floating in a plate filled with coffee. She said, "Whoops it spilled on the way over," and then plopped it down in front of me. It wasn't just a spill - the plate was flooded. She went to get me some napkins so I could soak it up myself. My boyfriend was furious, but I took the napkins we already had and soaked it up before she got back. When she did, I tried to make a friendly joke about the fact that she served me a flood and she (very snotty & in a sing song voice) said, "Well accidents happen." Big mistake. The girl, who is blond, wearing hip huggers a little too snug for her size 12 body, was obviously young and perhaps won't need a career in waitressing, but her cluelessness will be a disservice to any career she chooses and I am telling EVERY person in the city about the experience at Brownstone. She shouldn't be allowed to serve anyone. And I will never go to the Brownstone again as a result. HORRIBLE!

I first ate at Brownstone a year and a half ago. I have been there about 20 times since. I have never had a bad experience, have always had great service, and the food has been exceptional every time. I recommned this restaurant to everyone, and always suggest it when I eat out with friends - in fact, I am taking my family who is visiting from out of town there this weekend.

This place is totally former frat boy infested. When I was there, there was a large group of button down shirt dudes who were so drunk they made my meal un-enjoyable at 6:30pm. I went for lunch once thinking it would be better, but the services was so slow I am never going back. It took 45 minutes to get our food and then another 30 minutes to get our check. The food is good, though, so my advice is: take out.

I love this place...the women are wonderful to look at and the men are delicious...Chris F. is right...this is the best Halsted St. Bar off of Halsted St. The Brownhole is my new fave.
