Service was o.k nothing to talk about but the food I have to say was the biggest disappointment. Ceviche de pescado (fish) had no flavor, Mahi Mahi al mojo de ajo was dry and did NOT taste like ajo (garlic), Shrimp al mojo de ajo did not taste like garlic either and my brother in law's steak was chewy and also lacked flavor. My dad had a shrimp cocktail that he said was fine and did not say anything else about it. After we were done with our meals is when the waitress came by and asked if we wanted refills on our drinks. Next time we are for sure trying El Veneno across the street which I heard from a lot of people is excellent.

I went here on 7/8 and the food was fabulous! The portions were very generous, I was glad I shared with my date. The place itself has great atmosphere, a variety of patrons, and a really fair price for the quality and quantity of the food you get. I'm bringing friends this weekend.

Horrible food taste. The seafood have no flavor at all including the side dishes it seemed like they just pulled out of a frezer and threw it at the microwave. No wet towels were available so I went to the bathroom which is right across from the kitchen(NASTY), that sink looked as if it's used to do dishes, greasy, crumbs of food around the sink and toilet...ALSO disgusting environment they leave the doors open and flies are all around you and your food. This is suppose to be a restaurant not an open market selling food. And the waitresses they need to go for a make over before going to work and an urgent customer service class. First and last time for us.

All I have to say is that this place SUCKED! Worst service ever, waiters are rude and the food is basura. The waiter that served us had an attitude as if we owed her a favor. She got the orders all wrong. What is wrong with this place. I'm never going there again. I told all of my friends to not ever go there. How long does one have to wait for a drink? Half an hour....

OK! I only have to say one thing, THE BEST THE BET THE BEST THE BEST!! regardless of the service like some people say, you have waitress that are there non-stop serving and everyone takes care of you, that's good, never have had a bad experience, yea long waits, but also don't expect the Hostess to grab your hand and take you to the table insist!! in a corteous and in an appropiate way, if you are rude, expect longer waits...simple as that, you go to eat and have a good time, specially in summer time a Michelada! Shrimp, Red Sanpper, Charales!! yummy!!, if they take long to sit you down, consider that at the end, you will get a table for yourselves regardless if its 2 or 10 people!! NOW, if you go out a lot, and go to good restaurants, you will know that wait times are long EVEN at THE SIGNATURE PEOPLE! COME ON!!!!, specially when they don't take reservations, go to Tango Sur, they are good, in every way too, HUMONGUS LONG WAITS!!! but great on steaks and EL BARCO ! is NUMBER ONE in seafood specialty when there's good food, think about it, you time will be good too! SALUD POR EL BARCO!! I will always will keep going and going and going and going again again and again, don't they say seafood does that!! Keeps you going and going and going!! jejejejej

TERRIBLE SERVICE. On a Saturday night, we were told there would be a 25 minute wait. We waited 1.5 hours for our table! The only reason we waited is because the host told us we were getting the "next table" over and over. We saw the host accepting money bribes from people who came after us and were seated before us. There are so many great Chicago restaurants. Don't waste your time on this one.

I heard that this place was good so I gave it a try. We got there on on a Friday night around 8PM and the line was long. No where to stand and unfortunately it was very windy. Noone sat outside. We were there and the wait was 20 min. Then after 40 minutes I decided to ask how many people where in front of me and he said 20 more minutes, after I saw the list it was only two parties in fromt of me, one of 3 people and the other of 2 people, then it was my husband and I. I started noticing that they do follow the model "First come fisrt serve" Instead, if a table of 5 leave then they let 5 people in...even if they were after you!!!! I was so mad...no wonder my husband and I never got in..It was just us two. Finally my husband and I deiced to eat outside since the wind stopped. I still wanted to g ive it a try and not leave because of the unfair seating. The ceviche I ate was decent and the carne asada my husband had was not well done, we asked to have it cooked more. The drinks were great the food was alright and our waitress was very attentive. I prefer the ceviche from "La Vina del Mar" on 5087 S Archer Ave, Chicago, IL but since I live on the North Side I did not want to drive all the way over to the South Side. I'm gonna try different plates at El Barco just so I know I didn't misjudge it. All I know is that next time I will go to la Vina del Mar because their fish ceviche is the best I've taste.
