I have to agree with everything Jeff said on 10/21/06. The prices were outrageous for what you got. I had the same experience with service: water glasses being topped off every 30 seconds, wiping crumbs off of a paper tablecloth thats going to be thrown away (while we're still sitting there)...and I too had old food on the outside of my waterglass. It was my first time having Indian so not entirely sure how it compares, but I wasnt overly impressed with the food. It honestly didnt seem like something you couldnt get at a carryout joint.

India House is great. Sure there is great Indian up on Devon, but if you're downtown or River North, its a great place to go. Its always fresh and the veg selection cannot be beat.

The food is bland and expensive and the service is terrible. My waiter had significant attitutde problems. I can't recommend this place.

Unhelpful service, just okay food, extremely high prices for the quality. Meals are ala carte; you pay separately for the makings of a meal.

Its priced too high. The lunch buffet came around $13 for us.I wouldn't want to pay so much for the buffet.

India House is "terrible" because they present the ambiance of upscale Indian cuisine, but what they bring to the table is no better than what you'd get at a $7.99 buffet in a place with plastic glasses! The waiters were passively aggressive (over why, for example, my glass had old food stuck to it) and very mechanical, even impatient, in their service. It was as if they needed to get us out of there before the next bus arrived (even Cracker Barrel doesn't do that). Chicago has a lot of great Indian restaurants, but this is surely not one of them. It is just pricey for no reason at all.

When I walked into India House I was impressed by the ambience. I went here with my Indian friend who thought the food was mediocre and unhealthy/full of cream. I on the other hand could not figure out the difference in any on the 4 dishes we ordered as all of them had the same sauce and tasted exactly the same. To top the weekly intake of calories in one meal, this place has probably the worst staff and service I have ever experienced in my life!! I am never going back again!

I came to Chicago for a conference and with couple fo my friends I went there and I have to say that this place rocks. They have good selection of food and the wine they serve are really good.
