I bought my first Chicago Symphony recording in 1955: Tchaikovsky sixth symphony with Kubelik conducting. I knew there was somthing different about the trumpet sound. But in 1956 a heard the Reiner recording of Strauss' Don Jaun and I had to find out about the first trumpet of that orchestra. Years later I was privilidged to discuss those recordings and many others with Bud in Santa Barbera California. In an ever changing world, the consistency and example of Bud Herseth have been a "lamp unto my feet" and "light unto my pathway not only as a brass player but also as a human being. Thanks Bud

I have been fortunate to have Bud Herseth as my teacher. There has been no one quite like him. If you are interested, check out this new book that has a lot of information on how he Jacobs and Scarlett play. Herseth likes this book and reviewed it himself.

As a student of Chicowicz, and a Chgo Civic trumpeter, Herseth provided a divine reference for what the Orchestral trumpet was to sound like, and as a musical inspiration to all...A longevity unheard of , with consistency, that only mellowed with age.A phenom..probably never again to be!!!Thanks for so many inspiring years!

For about 20 years, my wife and I had season tickets to the Chicago Symphony concerts. During the same period I was principal trumpet of the Skokie Valley Symphony, a suburban community orchestra. I considered the CSO concerts I attended as valuable trumpet lessons. Bud Herseth's tone, power, phrasing and pure musicality wss overwhelming.
NOTICE: This is NOT the OFFICIAL Adolph Herseth website. These reviews are a forum for opinions about the venue that other Centerstage Chicago users may want to know, not to order merchandise, apply for a job, etc.
