The food is expensive. I've been to other diners where a similar plate cost's about half the price, is twice as good and you get twice as much. The waitresses are non-existent here. The waitress will bring you your food, your drink, and the check at the same time and walk away. No service, no refill checks, nothing. The Bread Basket almost seems like a practical joke. Go in, and you will get a basket that resembles hockey pucks. The people who check you out at the end of the meal are rude and uninviting. Bad place. Stay away.

I am a regular customer of the Marquette Inn on Franklin & Adams, eating lunch there 4-5 times a week. The food is pretty decent general bar fare and the waitresses were always nice to me and I liked the atmosphere. I always read at lunch, so I sit by myself. Today, I had an experience so negative that I will no longer spend my $ in this establishment. One of the owners (I think) started barking at my waitress about where my food was. She said she it was coming and he yelled at her to go get it NOW. First, I was appalled that he would speak to his staff in that manner right in front of a customer, so I decided to defend my waitress. When he came back by my table, I told him that I had requested that she wait a minute before she brought me my food (the food comes out so fast sometimes you barely have time to breathe). He started yelling at me that they are not a library and told me that I need to "eat and get out! We need to move more tables through here! Just eat your food and get out! This is not a library!" This is a free country and I am allowed to read when I eat. I can understand their concern with turnaround, but I am not the only person who reads in there during lunch every day, so being singled out was just silly. This was not the first time I have seen the owners yell at the wait staff, but yelling at a customer in a lunchtime-packed restaurant over something other patrons do is absolutely ridiculous. I will NEVER return to this establishment.

I worked at the board of education for 10 years now and i've been to the marqutte (60 w Adams) and the food is too expensive. For a salad it's 8.75 and when you ask for additional dressing and crutons is 2.00 extra however when served youreally dont see the "extra" things you asked for. Breakfast food is always cold and toast very burnt. Now what amazes me is that's how the food is when I dine in, when i dine out totally different. The waitress are good however the establishment is too high in price and this is now 10/2007 whi they have monthly specials because their losing business. A BLT and a coke is 10.85, and a small order of fries is 3.00.....good service bad pricing and cold food

I and my coworkers go to Marquette almost everday for lunch. The salads are fresh, the soup is good, especially in winter. The take-out staff are the best! Very good lunch spot for not a lot of money. Better than the Corner Bakery around the corner!! And way less expensive.

eVERYONE HAS BAD DAYS, AND i THINK THAT YOU SHOULD GIVE THE MARQUETTE ANOTHER CHANCE. iN THE HEART OF CHICAGO'S LOOP, WHERE ELSE CAN YOU GET A SATISFYING MEAL, SIDE AND DRINK FOR UNDER $10? IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO IMPRESS A CLIENT, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE..... AND IF YOU ATTEMPT THIS, ITS YOUR OWN FAULT. THIS IS A DINER...THE FOOD AND THE SERVICE ARE GREAT.

I agree with Clint. They other reviews are too harsh. I am a regular patron at Marquette on Adams. Their food is good for a diner's standards. Their prices are affordable and it is a perfect place to get away in the middle of the day for a nice lunch with a coworker. Thursday is Split Pea Soup day and if you like split pea soup, I highly recomend trying theirs!

Given the customer service experience I have just had, I will never patronize Marquette Inn on Adams again. My co-worker and I were asked to leave by a Mr. Jimmie Vargos. Mr. Vargos told us he was the owner and that "we should use common sense" and that "he didn't need our business because he owned several restaurants". My co-worker and I were seated at a 4 person table by the host. We were there after we finished lunch for about 10 minutes and Mr. Vargos came to our table and asked us to pay the check and to leave because we were taking too long. When asked if there were patrons waiting, he said yes. When my co-worker went to investigate, she saw two people waiting at the back entrance and none waiting up front. There were at least two other four-person tables with two guests and a check on the table that didn't get asked to leave.
It is extremely disappointing that a person in the service industry can be so cavalier with his customers.

I think the other review's a little harsh. I like the Marquette. It's nothing brilliant, but the food is good and inexpensive, and the service is great. Good standard diner fare.
