I also will never go back to Chicagoland Canoe Base. I bought a kayak from an older salesmen, not Ralph, and was treated rudely and indifferently. I really wanted to buy a kayak and if I had know about the other kayak dealers in the Chicago area I would have walked out of Chicagoland Canoe Base and shopped elsewhere. I also found out later that the kayak I was sold was defective. I took a 2-day beginner kayak class at Rutabaga in Madison, Wisconsin and compared my kayak to the same kayak at Rutabaga and could see how warped my plastic kayak was from sitting out in the sun too long. I would recommend making the trek to Rutabaga for a kayak or canoe, the store has a large lake right outside their back door and you can take a boat out for a spin to try it out before you buy. Also, the sales staff are polite, knowledgeable, and patient. The classes are also excellent.

The shop and the owner are one-of-a-kind American originals. Ralph is getting up there a bit but aren't we all. Don't miss an opportunity to go by and see him.

I have made two trips to Chicagoland Canoe Base Shop, and they are my last......the third degree from Ralph on why I wanted kayak accessories for my " 12' Kayak " was cruel , below the belt and on top of that his prices are sky-high......I have had enough and will tell anyone who ask's me where to buy kayak stuff ????...I can assure you his shop will never be refered by me !
