I am writing this immediately after just picking up lunch there. Like some other reviews I have stopped eating "in" and Willy's long ago. The waitstaff are so consistently bad, that it just isn't worth it.

My brisket was fabulous. It is really some of the best I have ever had. Very flavorful....excellent.

This is where it ended. You might as well take their sides and just tell them to keep them or throw them in the garbage so they don't clutter your table. I don't know why they can't do beans, mac n' cheese (particularly terrible), or cole slaw even decently, but they can't. My sides were as always....awful.

Verdict. Beef brisket was excellent...seems to be the consensus. The sides, service, and atmosphere are terrible and you should skip them completely.

I have always liked Fat Willy's. I think the ribs are good to sometimes very good. Not near the quality of Twin Anchors ribs, but better than Robinsons. I think the brisket and puled pork are some of the best in town.

My only real complaint was also their sides are sometimes mediocre and their service was ALWAYS bad. By bad, I mean like the people seemed like it was not only a pain in the ass to help you, but that they also hadno clue what they were doing. Unfortunately hygiene wasn't their strong point either.

That being said, I ate there last weekend and I couldn't believe how much better the service was. 100 times better. My girlfriend and I joked about how it must have new owners. Hopefully this is a new trend and not an exception.

I think people are being TOO nice to Fat Willy's. Yes, their brisket is good, ribs are pretty good, andthe pulled pork is pretty good. That is where unfortunately anything good about the place stops.

I am weary of overly negative reviews, but this place has a staff deserving of pretty awful ones.

    1. The waitstaff looks as if they have no clue what they are doing. From a filthy appearance to inept service, eating at Fat Willy's is a pretty frustrating experience. GET IT TO GO.

    2. Their meat is good. Their sides sometimes taste like they make them on Monday for the entire week. The mac and cheese could be some of the worst I have ever had. The cole slaw is awful too.

    3. I ordered food to go when it had been raining one day. It stopped raining so I rode my bike down and asked if I could just eat it there. I WAS TOLD NO, even though the place was empty. This place isn't good enough to get away with the attitude.

Twin Anchors, Gale StreEt Inn, and Honey 1 have far better ribs. Unless you are getting beef brisket, go elswhere. If you are going to go, do not dine in. It is way too frustrating

I'm torn here. I love the beef brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. I can't stand coming here though. The people that work here, with the exception of one or 2, are so bad it's frustrating. The waitstaff is slow and lazy and they take forever to get you the things they forgot. Their sides absolutely suck too. The mac and cheese blows, the fries are usually old, and the corn bread is OK I still come back for the meat, but get it to go.

I visited Fat Willy's for the first time on 7/9/07 & I asked the order taker to cut my tips small please not once not twice not thrice:) but four times to cut them small and when I arrived home I had five big fat ugly black rocks in the container, i immediatley called to complain and agian mentioned this was my first experience and the manager told me to hold on and came back on the line to say that the ribs come pre-cut and pre-marinated so they cannot cut them. I then asked, why didn't the order taker tell me that then? she stated she probably didn't know that, so I said why wouldn't she know what is going on where she work? Your the manager shouldn't you have trained her? Of course she didn't have an answer. So I then aksed do you have a hatchet in the kitchen? The manager said no. I am african american and have been eating rib tips before having any teeth so they cannot call themselves a ribs shack if they don't have a freaking hatchet in the dam kitchen. The manager then put me on hold again came back and said there is nothing she could do for me, so I've learned from this experience that if you read on a resturants menu that "they try to get your order right but may make a mistake and WILL NOT refund any actual U.S. currency back to you if unsatisfied with the meal" walk out.

They already know they are fuck ups, they even pinted it on the menu. Try Ribs Unlimited on 79th & Loomis, now that's rib tips.

I am so bummed! Fat Willy's used to be so good but I agree with the recent negative reviews. It seems the success has gone to their heads and they have relaxed on the quality yet raised the prices. The last few times I have gone for carry out (and I only live 5 minutes away) the fries are old, and over cooked once I could swear they had been re-fried to heat them up. I always get the sandwiches smoked chicken, brisket or burger and each one has been cold and dry and as though they have been sitting for hours. I tried ordering there and just waiting and it still sucked. I will probably give them another chance but just one.

The service has been fine both times I've been there, but the ribs really aren't that good. I know what "good" barbecue is and this is not it. The ribs I had the first time I went were oversmoked, so it kindof tasted like sucking on charcoal. The brisket was stringy, not crisp or juicy as it should be. The 4 cheese mac that they make such a BF deal about is lame. The lunch special is a good deal, but only then does your dollar match up to the quality of the restaurant.

I love Fat Willies. I have eaten their countless times and enjoyed every meal. If you are not into real southern BBQ (Smokey not sweet)do the safe thing and get the ribs (Smokey and sweet). I moved from Chicago a few months ago and Fat Willies is one of the things I miss most.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who was heavily disappointed with this highly rated restaurant (not sure what the owner paid Check Please to get his poor resaurant on that show).

First of all, the prices are way too high. I can get almost twice as much food at any other fast food joint for $6 compared to about $10 at Willys. Second, the food. The "famous" brisket sandwich was tough, dry, and just not good. It was topped with cold onions and horseradish sauce when they specifically said bbq sauce, those two are pretty much the same thing right? The fries were cold and some of them weren't fully cooked. Eating the wings was like eating bbq'ed fat, and the bbq sauce was bitter, extremely bitter.

The third and final reason, the service. In short the service is TERRIBLE, here is why: My mom ordered the "famous" brisket thing asking, "There's beef and bbq sauce right?" The manager goes "yes". She asked again to be sure and he says the same thing. We get our food and when we get home the sandwich has horseradish sauce on it, NOT EVEN CLOSE to bbq sauce. My mom then calls the place and it ends with the manager saying "You shouldnt be fucking rude to me when I have customers here, I dont need to talk to you bitch".

Thats a good way to run a business, when YOU fuck up and then yell at the customer, well FUCK YOU Fat Willys.
