Great soup last night - shrimp/corn chowder, but everything else was abysmal. The nicer cab sauvignon by the glass was old and tart; the veggie option plate was colorful, but cold, bland and uninspired; the meatloaf was awful - barely warm, doused with Worcestershire sauce and served with (supposedly) garlic mash - no dressing on the loaf or the potatoes. We both had two bites of our main courses and left.

Bottom line, if the food were amazing, it might make it worth returning. But the fact is, it's mediocre at best. A bit above a Fridays or Applebee's, but less ambiance and much less of a neighborhood bar. The decor is stark and uninviting, and the service was slow and rude. If I wanted an ambivilant and dismissive attitude from my bartender, I'd go to Ed Debevicks. So not Logan Square, SOOOOOOO not worth your money.

Man oh man am I not a Trixie-male, and still I must say that the criticism this place gets is undeserved. Yeah, if you're looking for something esoteric (and pricey), go to Lula's around the corner. If mid-range American cuisine fits yr bill (even cool-kids crave this type of food sometimes), than this is a good spot. The Wrightwood salad and Veggie-Burger are great, as are the tilapia sandwich and meatloaf. And yes, the cookie-sundae is really good. Never had a particular problem with the waitstaff, and I don't expect restaurants with bars to be smoke-free. Bottom-line: not-hip does not equal crappy.

Went to Dunlay's for lunch 2/10/07.

I was served a warm beer in a dirty glass and even though we sat against the wall farthest from the bar we could still smell the cigarette stink from one of the 2 people seated at the bar.

    Try somewhere else.

Food and atmosphere is painfully bland and boring, SO not why one visits or lives in Logan Square. Wolfbait and B-Girls next door should take over and give wonderful Lula some friendly competition. Or Fleur-- a Fleur restaurant would be pretty great, I'd bet.

Also amusing that Dunlays seem to import all waitstaff from their home base in Lincoln Park; they have no common ground with the locals and it shows.

This place is totally overpriced and the food was mediocre. The cookie dessert was the only thing worth going back for.

Overpriced and totally out of place in this hipster neighborhood, Dunlays is a Lincoln Park trixie trying to fit in with the cool kids. Your time (and money) is better spent checking out Lula around the corner.

The food here is good- love the fried egg sandwich on the weekends, wednesday night $5 burgers and the wise guy pizza. Most of the appetizers can be ignored- nothing is that spectacular. The problem has always been the service- slow, slow, slow. I've gotten more of my meals and drinks from the hostess than the wait staff- they should hire her as a waitress. Luckily, they do take-out which is the best way to get the food without having to deal with the long wait.

The food at Dunlay's is fantastic. It's really great quality cuisine in a relaxed, beautiful atmosphere. We have already been their 5 times the past month. I especially recommend the pizza and the wrightwood salad.

Went for dinner and the place was great. Blue cheese 'dip' was great, tasty blu cheese and homemade chips. My husband had the jambalaya which was smokey and just a bit spicy. I had the ribs which were tender, sauce was good, although they could have used more sauce. Dessert, we tried the cookie and it was magnificent. Table next to us had the artichoke and spinach appetizer and it was unique and they loved it. We'll be back.
