I wondered in here with a few girlfriends for a drink or two. I assumed this would be like any other sports bar I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the rail. The service was friendly, the burgers were amazing and the atmosphere was very chill. I have been back a hand full of times since.

Best Chicken Wings and Potato Skins around!!
(but you're right, the service has much to be desired)

I keep trying to give the Rail a chance, but am consistently disappointed. The service is deplorable. Recently a friend and I went there and waited 10 minutes at an outside table before our server came over to us. She'd seen us, but neglected to acknowledge us. A simple,'Sorry, but I'm really weeded; I'll be with you as soon as I can' would have sufficed. Funny thing, it wasn't even busy! When I got up to use the washroom I noticed the server and bartender sat at the bar smoking and chatting. Apparently making money wasn't their MO. Even more annoying and odd was when we placed our order, she interrupted my friend while she ordered her salad to say, 'were out of fish and chips.' Neither of us wanted fish and chips! And just two weeks ago I was again ignored at the sidewalk table along with my parents. During this period of time we decided to switch seats to put a couple deuces together so we weren't cramped. While doing this, another couple who were also waiting asked me, 'are you the waitress?' to which I replied, 'No, but I should be. You'd get much better service.' When she finally did come around, she acted indifferent, as though nothing was wrong. As a former 'waitron,' I empathize with my servers but at a bar you have to hustle to make money. Maybe theyre just inexperienced or just don't have the knack for it. I'll give it the old college try again, but not for much longer.

I have never been to a bar and grill with worse service! On two occasions, we came in, sat down, and after 15 minutes of waiting for a server/menues, we left! This has happened twice! On another occasion, my boyfriend and I were entertaining a out-of-town visiter. We were having a good time at The Rail-eating and having a few drinks. The waitress brings our bill and as I put out my credit card to pay, she say "Our credit machine has not been working all day!" (nobody had told us when we arrived or we would have went elsewhere). We had no cash nor the pin for the card. The workers were rude, theatening to call the police because they "refuse to eat the bill" (it was only $50 and I was willing to pay the next day as I live right down the street). We waited 45 minutes for the staff to come to a solution. The waitress was RUDE and a big LIAR! The manager was a complete JERK! Good customer service would have apologize for the inconvenience! We will NEVER patronize this business again!

It's not that there's anything wrong with the rail itself...the food is decent, the service is adequate, and the beer selection is satisfactory. What ruins this place is the snobby homogenous denizens who frequent it. If you're looking for loud, self-centered, idiotic yuppies, you'll find them here in abundance.

The Rail opened in the place of what was a great neighborhood bar with great bar food, Simply Ray's. Many people who live in the neighborhood, myself included, were excited about the Rail opening. Sadly, it falls flat in sooo many ways. The food is decent but is over shadowed by the bartender who has the worst attitude and the service is horrible. No one seems to be in charge and no one cares. It's loud, too smokey and way too pretentious for it's own good. Don't waste your time by going to the Rail. Head over to Lincoln Avenue and some of the good old german bars or newer establishments with better food, atmospherics and service.

They did not honor the specials' prices that they posted in the Redeye publication. Even after talking to the owner, the bartender treated me like a cheap jerk, because I expected them to live up to their claims.
If you have information published in print or online, you should live up to it.

It trys...but just falls short in so many ways. I couldn't believe how smoke filled it was. So much, I actually had difficulty even tasting the food. Location deserves better.

Despite its efforts, the Rail does not transcend the nighttime atmosphere of uptown Damen. There is nothing wrong with the bar, as it combines nice TVs with a big clean space and good taps. However, there is a spirit missing there and it's been missing from the bartenders too since the day it opened. Hit it up only for the specials if you're in the area.

The burgers and bbq sauce are terrific.
