We visited Cafe Absinthe last night for my fiance's birthday. This place is a must. The food is delicious! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The drinks are strong and reasonably priced. The menu changes daily and this time of year most of the dishes have pumpkin or squash. A meal here can be a little pricey to visit frequently, however, I will return in the future. We did notice a window that the servers were putting food in for Wicker Park Tavern next door, makes me want to try the food at The Tavern.

Great food and ambience. My date and I really enjoyed it. I could have done without the overattentive service, though. The waiter was paying a little TOO much attention to my date.

As a frequent visitor to Chicago from acroos the pond and a bit of a "foodie" i was very much looking forward to my recent trip to Cafe Absinthe .I have eaten in many of the worlds finest restaurants and can confidently report that what myself and my partner experienced was nothing short of excellence in every department. The ostrich starter is an absolute must by the way . The service was fantastic the romantic ambience was amazing and the food quite simply some of the best i have ever had . A true "taste sensation" !!

Where to begin? The ambiance was great, hip and trendy with a large crowd of pretty people. The food on the other hand was a different story. We started with seared scallops(2), they were nothing special and they were not worth 12 dollars for two scallops. They also tossed three little piles of mixed greens with some blue cheese crumbled on top and three piles of some sweet salsa around the plate. The "piles" were a nice distaction tactic from hearing or seeing the staff laughing at us for ordering it. I ordered the rack of lamb for my entree and had high expectations. My date ordered Rock Shrimp in a lime cilantro concoction of tomatos and other fancy veggies like onions. The green beans that came with the lamb had more flavor than the lamb itself. Actually, the water that came with the bread had more flavor, and the bread was better than the green beans. My dates rock shrimp resembled crawfish tales only smaller and at one point freed from a plastic bag reading "Jewel". The "rock shrimp" where tossed with the lime cilantro and presented in such a way I walked outside to make sure the sign didn't say "Red Lobster". Unfortunately, by the end of this meal I wish it had.
