I have recently discovered Quartino and especially enjoy the tortellino alfredo and hearts of romaine. Over July 4th I brought a group of friends from downstate Illinois and they were equally pleased at the food and reasonable prices. An outstanding find in the River North area. Couldn't wait to try Quartino. Review in the Chi Trib gave it 3 stars. Review in the Trib said that Quartino was better than Osteria via Stato.
What a disappointment. Forget the size of the place and the noise as all the reviews and comments said it as big and loud.
My wife, son who lives in Chicago and I a table in a passageway connecting the main dining room and the bar. Would have been a nice cozy spot except that it was a main thoroughfare between the dining room and bar.
Bar was crowded and the smoke was intruding into the area where our table was. Asked the host if he could fine us another table and was told that my request could not be accommodated.
Waiter arrived asked for our drink requests, I ordered 1/4 liter of the house chardonnay. It later showed up on the bill at $15. Not exactly inexpensive for so-so chardonnay.
First round of small plates was quite good. My wife had the fondue with some apples and it was most enjoyable. My veal meatballs were in a sauce with cranberries and were most acceptable. My son had a caprese salad and it was fine.
Next round was unimpressive. MY lamb shank was relatively flavorless and dry in places. Neither my wife's nor my son's plates were any better.
Waiter was busy but even so inattentive. Never asked about coffee, desserts, a 3rd round of plates.
A most medicore experience.

The wine selection, much of which is exclusive to Quartino's, is good and reasonably priced. The appetizers are priced and sized so that you can afford to try them all,(and you should!). There are always at least a couple of pastas that have been made that day on the premises. The service is friendly, quick, and informative. I have to force myself to try other places once in a while , or I will find myself back here every week!

fabulous! this is my new favorite restaurant. delicious food, great atmosphere, and great prices!!! can't wait to go back:)

The food and atmosphere are wonderful. Even better is the wine. I would not hesitate to recommend this place!

My girlfriend's and I had a great time...fun atmosphere and lovely service...Absolutely loved the cheese fondue!!!!!!Thanks for the great evening!

this place is just fab-a-lis, the decorating is sensational and the tini servings are just splendid, totally 4 stars.
