Just came in from out of town and was looking for some good authentic Cuban food. I looked up several places on the internet and found this to be the best possible choice out of several in the vicinity. This place had first class service and a decent wait time. I ordered to go and was in and out in less than 20 minutes. Cafe Bolero is a great choice for Cuban food no matter where you are from. This should be your first choice! Thank you, Cafe Bolero Staff for the great service and great food!

This place changed after the departure of the manager that took over after the reopening. This place was starting to rocka and roll especially with the music on Tuesday nites. The food is good, the service is bad and the attitudes even worse. If you can go there and serve yourself you'd be better off but it doesn't work that way. So many other Cuban restaurants in the city that this one can be overlooked.

Exceptional Cuban gem on the fringes of Bucktown. You will not find a better culinary representation of our neighboring island to the south.

Cafe Bolero is one of the 50 best restraunts in Chicago!

I chose Café Bolero for my birthday dinner during my first visit to Chicago this week. As a first-generation Cuban-American (& food critic) living in Cleveland, I like to sample Cuban restaurants when I'm traveling. While Café Bolero's food isn't Miami Cuban food, it is very good and as close to authentic Cuban bread as I've found north of Tampa. I also found the service to be friendly, if not fawning. We were invited back to enjoy music later in the week. I'd happily return just for the papas rellenos and flan de leche.

Potentially worst than the cafeteria food in a public school. Being from Miami and having eaten real Cuban food this place is a complete disaster. HORRIBLE food that I do not think my dog would eat and the service may be even worse than the food. The manager was extremely rude when I said that the food was not good and told me I'd have to pay for it anyway and did not offer an apology and just walked away. Not only was it not authentic Cuban it was disgusting. I wouldn't recomend it to anyone.

My boyfriend and I ate at Cafe Bolero and loved it. The service was great and extremely friendly. The food was delicious (especially the ropa vieja)... I'm taking my mother there tonight for mother's day.

Four of us went to this restaurant last night before Spamalot. I guess the review for good mojitos were a good enough draw. I disagree completely with the assesment of their service. The hostess was friendly and our waitress was fast, efficient, knowledgable and just really sweet. She guided us through the menu and all of her recommendations were wonderful. The Mojitos were yummy, the ropa vieja was out of this world, the goat was interesting, the yucca - yumma, and the fricasse was tender and flavorful. We recommend the combo platter as you can try a lot of delicious apps like potato balls and tamal. Four of us split one and got a good idea of how tasty our dinners were going to be. The flan was delicious. So, apps, two pitchers of mojitos, dinner, dessert and tip for the four of us for $150. We gave a good tip too because that server was awesome. As far as timing, we had two hours before the show, had a great dinner and time to spare. This will be a new favorite for us!

last weekend i was there with my cousin. we've been there before and love the food. unfortunately, the service was horrible! hostess was rude and told us to wait in the back room and wait until they call us for our table. no etiquette in talking with customers. we could see a couple that came after us was disappointed too and were treated the same. hostess was more interested in a fight that broke out in the street than the quality of service for her customers. waiters/waiteresses do not wear uniforms and it was hard to see who is the employee or the customer. again, hostess was rude and we live 45 minutes away. came to the city for their fantastic food but never again. well, maybe we will order it to go. (wink) impeccable service is important to us and it's ashame the hostess had such a ghetto attitude. i rank it high on the food but the service gets zero from us. goodbye cafe bolero!!! hasta la vista!!! with all the new restaurants opening in the city, cafe bolero will not be missed. i suggest they replace the hostess with someone who actually likes people and makes customers feel welcomed without the feeling of being rushed. if you're thinking of going to cafe bolero, don't go in the weekend or just order to go.

Cuban food is very hard to find in Chicago so I was skeptical about the place. I have to drive an hour to get into the city so I was thinking this place had better be worth it! I have to say Bolero's did not disappoint and I LOVED it. My best friend is Cuban (who lives in Miami) and I visit Miami many times during the year, so I do know Cuban food and this is very comparable. Food was excellent, service was great, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Definitely will be going back!
