This is one of my favorite restaurants in the whole city. It's a small, family-run place. They are very friendly and the food is fantastic. I don't mind the slow service. Most of the other cultures in the world don't move at the frenetic pace that ours does. I've never had a dish that I didn't like at Bhabi's. Don't miss the pistachio naan!

For months we anticipated dining here based on Check Please reviews. We waited an unacceptably long time for our orders to be taken. Mr. Syed recommended a dish to my husband as he cannot eat food that's VERY spicy. When we got our food, it was great (I will say). But my husband's dish was so spicy, it burned the stomach to eat. When we asked if we could exchange the dish we were ignored and outright mistreated. Mrs. Syed glared & stomped past us & said if we didn't like it, we didn't need to eat it. No one ever came back to the table. When we called Mr. Syed over, he said, well most people like it, and would not take it off the check. End of story. Although, this food was good, I found here the worst customer service. I think that all the business success has gone to Mr. Syed's head & he has forgotten that it is the cusotmers that ultimately have brouht him the success. Although, I would love to taste the pistaccio naan again, I will never return here.

Worst Indian food I have ever had. Portions are small and the price is expensive.

I was about to surrender to the experience, because my patience had been tried for 75 minutes now, and I simply gave up on stressing about the lack of friendliness, waitstaff who didn't speak English, water refills in an iced tea glass (which essentially ruined what was left of the iced tea), etc. The bill was brought to our table (that took an additional 15 minutes), and I was shocked to find the $4 charge for RICE! I'm talking a cup of basmati, people.
Oh, Bhabi. You may get people in once, but unless you get an attitude adjustment, serve bigger portions and fire your entire staff, you won't have anyone returning. Shame on you. Stay in the back and cook and leave the front of the house to people who have worked in a restaurant before and can at least muster a smile.
I'm going to try and end on a positive note. The bread lived up to the hype. It was reasonably priced for how special it was, well worth $4 for the pistachio naan. Order it as takeout and move on with your life before you are held hostage at Bhabi's.

Well, after all of the hype, we decided to order Bhabi's take out on Thanksgiving. When I placed the phone call, my request for papadam was denied because it "wouldn't be fresh after an hour." Our order for mango ice cream was denied because they had no way to package it, and all bets were off when we were told that our food would be ready in 3 hours!
So, flash forward to July and we made it to Bhabi's for lunch to avoid the crowd and the long wait for the food...Or so we thought.
One couple was finishing their meal, which left me and my guest as the only people in the restaurant. We were basically scowled at the second we came in by none other than Bhabi herself! This was not starting off well.
We waited 20 minutes for a single samosa, which was the size of a potsticker. I ordered Diet Pepsi, and my friend's ice tea came right away, but I was forced to wait an addional 15 minutes because NO ONE was willing to service our table. The can arrived and was plunked on the table--No ice, no glass.
40 minutes later, the food arrives. Two orders of bread, Chicken Masala and a beef dish. There were two palm-sized servings of beef in the bowl for $12, which is essentially the price of an Indian buffet on Devon. The Masala consisted of drumstick joints, and there were three of those. Again, $12. (See part 2 of this review.)

Simply put, I can excuse bad service if the food is very good. Yet, the food here would be marginal, at best. My wife ordered the Chicken Masala (Bhabi's Special) chicken with special spicy gravy. While the flavor was not bad, the portion was one small chicken leg and half of a chicken thigh (yes, 2 small pieces with a bowl of sauce) - for $12.00! I had the Palak Gosht Lamb/ Goat cubes cooked with spinach, onion and spices. Again, a small bowl of mostly sauce with four small pieces of low-quality lamb/goat - for $14.00. Did I mention that Bhabi charged us $2.00 for each can of Diet Coke we had? In addition to the tiny-portioned, marginal food, the service was atrocious: no help with the menu, an incomplete order, begging to get water and our check, poor seating and a table top that was far less than clean. Many others around us experienced the same bad service, as I could see and hear them complaining to Bhabi. Check Please's reputation is the only thing going for this place. Will not go back.

Great tasting food, the owner is VERY talkative and helpful for picking out foods that compliment eachother. The downside....as I was washing my hands in the bathroom, a GIANT cockroach crawled out from behind the sink!!! It kind of turns you off to the rest of the meal. However unfortunatly the prospect of roaches isn't really unexpected in a building of that condition, but gross nonetheless.

Don't know what all the hype is about. Think Bhabi's getting too big for his britches. Food quality is just mediocre at best; and, since we sat where we could see thru kitchen door, looked like every dish was reheated in a microwave. Very Overprice; and, Very small portions. Much better Indian choices out there (e.g. Hema's; Udupi; or even Viceroy). Won't go back.

This restaurant has excellent food. The day after it was reviewed on tv, the place was packed. We waited an hour for the table and two hours for the food. The place ran out of everything and they had to go by more groceries just to make more. The taste outweighs all of that. I just wish they kept later hours on Thanksgiving like the other restaurants on Devon Ave.

I am a fan of Bhabi's, however, one of the house specialities, Butter Chicken, is listed as boneless, skinless chicken breast in a delightful sauce. Though the dish is good, it is definetely NOT chicken breast. The entire dish was nothing but dark meat. Shame on you, Bhabi!
