Mr. Adam R., Bolat is not a fast food "joint". Part of the experience is "taking it all in". Bolat is okay in all respects.

That;s my opinion and I'm sticking by it :-)

I had the jerk chicken and it was "to die for!" The spices were perfect, hotter than I am used to, but damn i just couldn't stop eating it. It is served as a whole chicken and before you touch it the meat is already falling off of the bones. By the end, I was sweating and my tongue was on fire, but the tender juicy meal was just too good to stop! My friend also loved her vegetarian meal. People who are unsatisfied with the slow service may like coming at an earlier hour. We showed up around 3 in the evening when there was only 1 other table occupied. The waiter was so attentive he anticipated every need before we had to ask.

Overall, I would totally recommend this place. From the outside, it looks like a dive. Look past the exterior and give it a chance. You won't be disappointed!

To all that have commented on the service, True the service is slower. To the credit of the restarant, the food is great. The "waiters" the people that help to get drinks and bring the food are mostly the owners with some helpers. If one should open up and embrace the slower culture of the restarant all would enjoy great food in a relaxed, open, family owned place. This truely is an african experiance with "slower service" to make sure the taste of the food is the real deal. If your mind is open, you will never forget the flavors of this great place. Mabe walk up to the people satnding around and remind them you need that drink. But come for the food or take it home if this is a problem.

The food @ the resturant wasn't that terrible. But the service was the worst service I've ever gottern @ a resturant. The waiters don't have a sense of urgency whatsoever. If the service improve, this would be a great resturant. Until then, I don't take Bolat serious.

obviously adam, the previous reviewer, is not an international food junky, he seemed more like he has some "bones" to pick with that restaurant. i have been to the restaurant over five times and they always seems to be very consistent with the level of quality food they serve. so i would like to greatly recomment going there with a very open mind and little education on what the food are. but i would also have to back up Adam on the fact that the service, even though is not the worst i have ever had, could use some improvement to complement the level of quality food the restaurant serve.

This is easily the worst restaurant I have ever been to, food and service-wise. Our group of 6 adventurous and regular ethnic food lovers all hated it. The service was beyond bad - they practically ignored us all night, failed time & time again to bring us the beers we ordered, and the food was shockingly bad. The watermelon seed stew with goat meat was slimy and disgusting. The mango seed stew with tillapia was the worst, bone-filled, foul-tasting fish any of us had ever tasted. The appetizers, including meat pies, beef kabobs and "stewed snails", were all on the verge of inedible. There were probably 6 or 7 male employees in their 20's and 30's mulling around and laughing the entire time behind the bar and we all concluded this could not be a real restaurant. I would not wish this place on my worst enemy.

    Gbogbo Ile nko?

Bolat is one of the best West Afircan Cuisine resturants to ever hit the Chicagoland areas. As an African-American, who enjoys West African Cuisines, I really enjoy the Nigeria dishes over in Nigeria, and it's like home away from home. odabo!
