This has been my favorite restaurant in Chicago ever since they opened. On my first visit, though, I was worried about the bill, since the menus list no prices. The owner assured me that any main dish was only $8 and we discovered that that's usually enough to feed two people. What's even better than the price is the highlife music, pleasant fellow diners speaking Twi, and especially the friendly service, even if you don't speak Twi. Where else can you get a refill on your peanut butter soup when you still have lots of fufu left? Need more fish? A whole red snapper fried in palm oil is only $5. My wife and I keep going back for the fried plantain and bean stew, boiled yam and spinach stew, and of course fufu and soup. My only complaint is that they prepare nothing in advance, so be prepared to wait a half an hour while the ladies boil a yam for you while you watch a movie from Ghana on their big TV. This is one of Chicago's hidden treasures.
