I've been to two concerts at Alpine. First time was lawn seats. The band looks like ants from that distance so you spend most of the time looking at a jumbotron, but the sound was good. The second time, I had seats in the last row of the pavilion, still had to watch jumbotron but sound was better. I'm going to see Aerosmith 6/13/09 and this time I'm in the 4th row on the right of the stage. All that being said, to get the best experience, you have to save your money and pay a shitload of it for good seats. Get there several hours before showtime, bring a grill and plenty of food to cook because the tailgating atmosphere at alpine is awesome. If you have lawn seats and don't want to get drenched in the rain, spend $20 on a rain suit. Bring plenty of money because like any venue, the concessions are way overpriced. If you just plan ahead regarding the traffic and weather, you should have a great time.

This will be my first time to Alpine Valley to see DMB in July. I have reserved lawn seeting. Do people bring blankets and chairs to sit on or what? Since my seats are reserved, meaning I have a section, row and seat number I am assuming that I will have pretty good seats for the lawn. Any reactions?

Alpine Valley is the shit, if you say DMB sucks your all full of shit! I have gone to both concerts he has played for the last 4 years, Did you really think that you were going to get Seats and hard ground for paying for lawn seats, and thats half the fun when your there. All of you people should quit being little bitches and suck it up

We went to the Jimmy Buffett show at Alpine Valley on Saturday, July 19th.

First, the sound quality sucked. For anyone sitting near the top of the hill, as we were, you just could not hear. The only way we could tell what song he was singing was from the fans singing along.

The show was way over booked. My wife was kicked in the kidney by one of the patrons. It was far too crowded. There were no clear isleways to get up and down the hill and people walked right across our blanketed area.

The bathroom conditions outside of the venue were deplorable. There were only a few toilets. A couple of the toilets were overflown with human waste. A lot of the males, and some females resorted to the nearest corn field to relieve themselves.

Live Nation needs to pour some of the millions that it has skimmed off of the fans and put it back into this venue. 1) Improve the sound 2) Put in permanent bathroom facilities near parking. 3) Improve the conditions on the hill and have clear isleways for patrons.

    We won't be back.

Alpine Valley is at least twice the size of most venues such as crappy verizon here in St. Louis. So yes there are a lot more people trying to get in and out. Again deal with it. Since there are so many people you have to get there early. Partying before the show is also the fun of it. Also it took me about an hour to get our of the lot and I was right on the highway. Not much different than other venues. Don't complain when you leave at 7 for a 7:30 show and expect to make it on time. There isn't a venue in the country that doesn't have traffic jams before big shows. Especially when you leave late. It's just one of those places you need to get there early. I will continue to camp and go to Alpine Valley every year that dave plays. It's very beautiful and peaceful and I love it. Especially the tailgating beforehand.

Also, I have to say I have been to alpine valley 3 times. The view is fantastic and I had no problems with the sound and had a great time. Yes it does suck if it rains but it also sucks at other venues. How about deer creek? That's a field too. You just have to deal with it. I also don't want to hear about it raining in the lawn. You should prepare for that. A lot of venues have lawn sections. And in case you haven't noticed grass gets muddy when wet.

I booked my site at Bong State Recreation. Going to Dave this year. Is that a nice place? I got the last sight and it sounds like you can party there a little without a problem. I assume most of the sites are booked by Dave fans. I guess I could cancel if Rome Riverside is better. But it's first come first serve. What if I don't get one? We'll be getting there friday afternoon and staying three nights.

I haven't been to a show since Ozzfest 2007 at Alpine Valley. I live in north central Illinois and would drive the extra 3 hours everytime to see ANY show over the 45 minute ride to the giant pole infested Tinley Park dump. Alpine is a beautiful place when it's nice out and the sound quality has always been good and I have seen all kinds of shows there in the past 20 years. I would go ther any day except to see Buffett or DMB.

I'm looking for personal opinions of the best camping nearby. I've heard of Scenic Ridge, Rome RIverside, and Kettle Morraine South Grounds. What is the best for a DMB show in August 2008?

2007 DMB is over and trying to find a place for aug. 2008. hotel in east troy is already booked. any other recommendations. btw, got there super early last year only to have the gates closed. we were told we couldn't wait on the road, so we found a county park and started drinking. so, for 3 hours you have people drinking all over the place and then driving into the muddy/stench filled parking lot. and.......whoever was throwing condoms on the windshield of my car; my husband is fixed so don't need to worry about that
