Oh the delights of this corner cafe situated among the eclectic shops and restaurants of Lincoln Square!
Step inside and the bakery case will surely blow you away. I don't know how they do it, but even during the worst of Chicago winter's weather, Selmarie comes up with some of the freshest and tastiest raspberries and strawberries to top their delctable delights.
Try the Raspberry or Mixed Fruit Tartlet, brimming with huge ripe rasperries, drizzled with a sweet honey-like sauce and cozied atop a miniature pie crust filled with the most delicious custard.
Or, opt for the Strawberry Roulade, a roll-up style dessert (that is great for breakfast too!) filled with homemade whipped cream and fresh strawberries all rolled up in a light, sugar-dusted cake. I have purchased the whole roulade several times for parties and it is always a HUGE hit.
Plan to have a sit-down meal at Selmarie as well. Their restaurant serves up unique entrees made freshly and simply.
I give this corner cafe two thumbs and a toe up!

This is a most pleasant corner bakery. Walk, stop and dine in or out for MOST pleasant coffee and bring friends. This is a neighborhood bar of a different breed-- DELI -- & EURO-- most delightful a the real German corner of Lincoln Ave. Pastries, light fare inside or out, at stand-up counter or seated.
It tries to serve meals as well BUT it has younger staff, and has a short order kitchen for breakfast, lunch items--so buyer aware. If you are expecting the Highest Quality for DELI prices... -- this is comfort & fast service at the pantry counter OR slow, relaxed service (think EURO) and NATURALLY sometimes indifferent for a newbie customer unknown to staff (like myself).

While the food is highly taxed - it is a great place to sip a Redeye, read some Poetry, have a bagel and watch the wildlife!

I live in the neighborhood and have lunch or dinner there quite often. The freshly made entree's are always excellent, the salads are made with fresh ingredients and the service is efficient. When the restaurant is crowded, it is noisy.

Skip the breakfast. I've been there twice in the last two months and the food was always served cold. Others that were seated after us were served before us. We ordered hot chocolate which was also served cold. When we told the manager, no effort was made to reduce the bill or offer a discount on a future meal as an enticement to try it a third time, after I explained that I won't be back for breakfast. It was comical when she said "well I hope you come back". That's a lot of hope. The pastries are good. The bread pudding is excellent, however the cakes are dry. Stop in get some coffee and parties to go, but don't stay for breakfast.

The food is excellent. In response to Selmarie Stacy, the fact is that the two owners Jeannie & Birgit took the name as a composite from two aunts or other women relatives. It's interesting that someone else is named Selmarie and an unfortunate coincidence that S. Stacy also cooks and can't use her real name for fear of being confused. That must be frustrating for her. However, the name was not concocted in malice or for any underhanded reason. I play the accordion outside the cafe and all the comments I overhear about the food from patrons are positive. The times I've eaten there it's been teriffic.
