BARDSTOWN, KY. OUTDOOR DRAMA The excellent outdoor theaters that run plays during summertime are A. Bardstown, KY's Stephen Foster (author of Beautiful Dreamer and of My Old Kentucky Home - gorgeous songs of the South which Walt Disney loved and used in movies, as well as: "Old Black Joe".
B. PETERSBURG, IL. The outdoor theater is much, much smaller than the theater in Kentucky's hills [refer: above] but the possibilities of playing a raindate indoors in the Abraham Lincoln theater are priceless and mean never a disappointed theater fan during a downpour or just a gentle rain. "Abe Lincoln" "Brigadoon" "Gypsy" on-stage during July and August only, are truly excellent - the acting is so good by the students from college acting school. I give "Abe Lincoln", and "Brigadoon" (which I saw in the indoor theater where it had been moved to due to a sprinkle outdoors), and "Gypsy" are reminiscent of the beautiful shows at the Northwestern University Evanston, IL. campus either outdoors or at Annie May Swift Hall.
Say "Yes" to 2 popular musical venues during the summertime at "My Old Kentucky Home state park" and "Lincoln New Salem state park" in Bardstown, KY and Phillipsburg, IL respectively.
Moderate to low ticket prices: only $8 to $9 for a Senior Citizen
plus popcorn/refreshments from the refreshment stand. I give each of them 5 stars out of a possible 5 stars.

"The Sound of Music's" shows in New York and Chicago do not have the sharp wit, appropriate ages of the actors and actresses, and musical director, that Cahn Auditorium's presentation had. The Oscar Hammerstein II and Richard Rogers score was excellently performed by the orchestra in Cahn Auditorium. The intermission was well placed, and the acting was A ++ . I give it 5 stars out of 5 stars.
