I really wanted to give this place a 10 but, they constantly kept getting deductions. The white fish was okay but, was not what I expected -- it was PROCESSED. Additionally, this place wanted to charge me $2.99 for garlic bread -- I only wanted a slice to soak up the grease from the fish, as I opted out of the soup and salad (they only have iceberg lettuce -- get some different greens). They did not have Campri on the bar, nor did they have a decent Scotch. Okay the restaurant/bar is cute and the bartender was friendly but, they need to stock better stuff. I'll go back a 2nd or 3rd time before The verdict is still out on this place, as I'd love to give it a fair shake because it's in the hood.

I initially heard many good things about Cafe Nine 17, so I gathered some friends and went. On my initial visit we had a wonderful time. (Kudos to Marcos) At that point I figured this may be a "cute spot" for friends to hang out. But after a few more visits I have been utterly disappointed. I have never seen a restaurant constantly run out of steaks, shrimp or porkchops. They have one or two individuals that are actually personable, the rest are TERRIBLE. I personally do not understand how they have managed to stay open/afloat. I would not recommend this place to my worse enemy. If you are looking for a good sit down dinner in a "people friendly" atmosphere this is not the place for you. Eat before you come and bring your own company for entertainment.

I cannot find anything good to say about this place. i've been on several occassions and it has been the same. no one to greet at the door, no one is ever there and the service is super slow. the food is only edible and the drinks are watery. how do you mess up a drink? i ordered the bbq wings and they had feathers on them. i wanted this to be a cute little spot on the southside to grab a bite and conversate, but i was disappointed. sorry cafe nine 17, i'll never be back again. please close up.

I love Cafe Nine 17. I go there every Thursday for the Chicken Philly...The live jazz Band...And my favorite bartender Marcos. The staff is friendly and very attentive. The cafe even has Wi-Fi, all you need is your lap top. The restrooms are always clean and stocked with the things ladies need. Kudos to the Cafe

I stopped in a few months ago and it was a pleasant enough place on a Saturday afternoon. It had a nice atmosphere and the people were generally kind. I thought it was quite nice to be able to get a burger and beer in the hood. That is until I got the burger, it was a big disappointment because it was industrial food. WIth black people suffering from hypertension and diabetes, the last thing we need is industrial food full of nitrites and other over-processed crap. Restaurants should be first and foremost about the food and no one should serve industrial food at a restaurant. I would have really enjoyed, nice freshly prepared food and that would have really stood out in a good way on the South SIde, instead it fades into al the other fast food and bars because the food is bland and industrial.

I only ventured to this South Side hot spot once, BUT the party was off the chain! If you are looking for the hottest event planner, Larry Fortner Enterprise, you have come to the right spot. My only regret is that all the Bears are on board except Urlacher. Please send my luv to the door greeter, damn, she was fine! Thanks Larry, you ARE a legend!

My girlfriends and I have had our monthly girls day there the month of April and May. We continue to return for several reasons one reason is the owner is friendly, cute and very personable. Another reason is you know how hard it is to get everyone to show up at the same time so you can be seated well at Nine 17 if all my friends don't show up at the same time we are allowed to be seated. To me that is customer service. The menu is versatile and affordable so much so after lunch or dinner you can afford desert..(smile) Another group of mine will be meeting there on August 12 as a journey group to discuss life...
