And I quote: ome for the bar, stay for the better-than-average bar food. First and foremost, try the "soon to be famous" Wells Burger, a specially seasoned half-pounder on a grilled pretzel bun, which costs $7.25 and comes with a side of fries. And if red meat ain't your thang, try a turkey burger made with spinach, feta, onion and garlic. Definitely order a batch of grilled calamari, which is unsurprisingly prepared in a tasty tequila sauce (after all, this is a bar). Speaking of extraordinary appetizers, you can't go wrong with standards like nachos, jalapeno poppers or a quesadilla with spinach, peppers, corn and, of course, some serious cheese (add chicken for $1, steak for $2). For something a bit more nutritious, go with a salad or a wrap ($6.95-$8.50), both of which come with those fries I was telling you about...
The atmosphere at Wells on Wells is consistent with the neighborhood feel of Old Town, which you can experience more directly by taking advantage of the outdoor seating which, incidentally, faces Second City (come to Wells on Wells after a show, and you just might see the cast celebrating at the bar). There's live music every Wednesday night with no cover charge.

I was greeted by the most adorable server in the world. Her name was Amanda. She works on sundays and tuesdays, Im planning on becoming a regular just to have the most outstanding service from the sexiest girl in chicago. She is a teacher by day even hotter. She had a few shots after her shift with me and my friends and she can out drink any man I have ever drank with. If she could only work at every bar I go to. The food was amazing. drinks fantastic and Amanda's ass is outstanding.

I have never experienced bad vibes from the staff at Wells. The food is great and it's a nice laid back hangout with a HUGE beer garden.
I have a feeling that the type of people that take the time slam a restaurant/bar in reviews: A)Just like to complain B)Are miserable human beings with nothing better to do
I bet you people also return half eaten food and demand a refund.
This place has become my favorite in Chicago. Check it out.

We heard about this bar from friends and decided to check it out. BIG mistake. The bartender double charged our tab and when I pointed this out she ignored me and called over the security guy who told us to leave. When my friend tried to tell him abou the credit card problem, the guy twisted his arm behind his back and shoved him out the door. I called the next day and spoke with the owner who fixed the credit card matter but refused to give me the name of the employee who attacked my friend. The place looks cool, but beware. We will not be going bakc.

I have to agree with Unhappy Neighbor. The bar looks really cool and on first sight it is a fun place to be. BEWARE: the establishment plays privy to a group of off duty cops. They have a tendency to manhandle and abuse patrons when they feel the need. We saw this happen, twice. The first time it was a guy that got drunk and hit on the bartender. It was more than harmless. The cop picked him up and literally threw him out. He threw him so hard he fell. The second time the same guy manhandled a woman. He twisted her arm behind her back and shoved her out the door for arguing with her friend. The people in the bar don't seem to care that this is going on. The bartender actually laughed about it. If you have no problems with them it's a cool place to go. It sucks that they think it's okay to violate people who are trying to have a good time.

I have been to wells at least three times a month this year. my friends and i love it. the atmosphere is great, the food is fabulous and the staff is awesome. the comment below is totally false compared to my experiences there. the staff, whether it be the handsome bartender or the the gorgeous wait staff have always been nothing but nice and attentive. stop in and see for yourself.

I live right near Wells on Wells and always thought it looked like a fun neighborhood bar, so I stopped in for a beer the other night. Five minutes before closing time, my friend and I were finishing our beers when the bouncer went into an unprovoked rage on us. We did not say a single word to him, but he chose to pick up my friends beer, slam it in the trash, scream in our faces to "get the f--k out," pick my friend up by the jacket, attempt to choke him, and forcefully throw him out of the bar. All the while, several people, probably friends of the management, proceeded to stay in the bar drinking well after closing time without having to deal with being assaulted by the bouncer.
I understand overly aggressive bouncers, but the manager was entirely unapologetic, made up a fake name, claimed that the bouncer was actually not an employee of the bar, and then slammed the door in our faces. I attempted to contact the owner the next day but again, did not receive the courtesy of a return phone call.
So, apparently unprovoked assault on patrons is acceptable at this place. And I emphasize, it was entirely unprovoked. Great customer service....I'll never step foot in that place again.

This is the greatest bar in town. Excellent place to hang out if you like to order double skim white russians in pint glasses. I hear they love it when you feed $10 into the jukebox and order up the Grateful Dead's Turn On Your Lovelight 16 times in a row. Food is superb, although they would do better late night business by adding one of those big glass-domed cake platters with giant fresh made cakes each night. I highly recommend Wells On Wells.

Laid back place with cheap drinks and food specials! The staff were great and the owner is a younger guy who is all about new people stopping by!
